downpipe and catback is all right?
ok this is one of those dumb *** questions but bear with me. i heard that it is recomended to get an a/m eco if u change ur midpipe to a high flow. my question is, if i was to instal a downpipe and a high flow cat back would that replace the midpipe(and its catylic converter). and if it would does that mean i have to get an a/m ecu?
also on a side note, what are your opinions on the best high flow cat back, i am looking for one where u can hear it rumble but not the obnociously loud coffie-can rice boy ones. something subtle but can mak some noise. not to big either

No a down pipe takes car of the pre-cat, cat back takes care of restrictive muffler, mid pipe takes care of main cat. You dont need an ECU upgrade until your pushing past 12 psi which you need a boost gauge to tell you that. A cat back and downpipe is fine and you could probably get away with an intake with a boost controller.

As long as your not over 12 psi you are fine on the stock ecu. Definately get a boost gauge. If you replace your "cat" with a hi flow cat then you will be fine. Don't replace it with a midpipe till you have ported the wastegate and/or gotten a new ecu.

I heard someone say an ECU is necessary with a "3" mod rule? I guess that doesn't apply?
I'm not planning on turning up the boost, but would a more efficient intercooler require an ECU upgrade?

3 mod rule is bogus! As long as you are not spiking or creeping then you are fine. Keep your boost as close to 10psi as you can and you should be fine. Don't get too carried away though because you will spike unexpectantly and then "pop"! It is always a good idea that after a few mods you upgrade your ecu as a safety measure (eg. intake, cb, dp, pulleys, possibly an ic but that is stretching it)
