Question downpipe bad for the tranny!?!?!

my car is in the shop due to a busted pilot bearing input gear and the 5th gear syncro, wither way the guy dropped the tranny and saw my downpipe and also noticed discoloration of the tranny where the dp passes it. he said it could be a reason for some of my tranny problems and i should look into getting it coated of building a thermal shield to protect the tranny from the exxesive heat. either way i was curious if any of u have heard this b4. i think i got pics of the discoloration ill post em later.

Could have been your pre-cat that was heating it up before the dp install... ???

Did you install the downpipe yourself? If so, did you notice any discoloration during the install?

if the exhaust heat was bad enough to damage bearings and synchros, ALL of the bearings and synchros would be wrecked, and the right side of the tranny would look like a Popsicle that had been sitting out in the sun.
