Question Downpipe

When looking for a Downpipe, what should I look for? A Stainless Steel Downpipe only right? A guy sent me these specs

SUS-304 STAINLESS STEEL, MANDREL BENDS Only, ROBOTIC TIG-WELDING, FLANGES ARE 3/8 THICK, 2 Year Warranty

Think it is a good buy for $230.00 Does the name brands really make that much difference in a downpipe. Thanking you in advanced.

So is it a good, even though its not a name brand. Really could I trust it to make the same power as a name brand.

Yes, there are definitely fitment differences between the brands of downpipes. You can get high quality SS pipes from Rotary Performance (rx7.com), M2, Pettit. I would stick with a "name" brand for ease of fitment.

If it is truly a 3-inch pipe like the brands I mentioned. The HKS mild steel has 2.5 inch crimp.

It's just a pipe. Any pipe with same diameter and smooth bends will flow the same.

turbo F1,

I am in the market for a downpipe too and have finally decided on the HKS. It is a mild steel component, but for the price and lack of complaints regarding fitment issues, I think this is the one for me. Fitment issues were key to me because I am going to do the install myself.

Name brands don't matter, as long as it is a good fit.

Good luck, let us know what happens,

M

M2 works better b/c it fits w/o removal of many other parts.

i like the hks.. i was wondering what that crimp is for.. by looking at japanese magazines i think its there to make way for the steering rack, rod.. that goes down that side on right hand drives... if it was a little bigger it would probably hit the steering rod when the engine torgues.... i dunno.. just a thought.. i just like the sounds of the turbos now.

The correct way to say it would be...

It's easy to install because of those reasons...not works better ????

They all work pretty much the same if they are the same diameter and mandrel bent...SS is slightly lighter and will last longer...they would probably outlive your car anyhow

I'm installing my Pettit DP now. These cars are such a pain to work on. Those engine comparments are so tight that when I dropped one of the heat shield nuts, it never hit the ground! As for the actual install of the DP, I haven't got that far yet.

I've dropped many nuts and bolts, and they're gone forever! That plastic belly pan doesn't help either. A couple times I just bought new nuts instead of spending tons of time looking for a dropped one.

I know what down pipe your talking about. It is the pipe on Ebay, they also sell a mid pipe. Everything looks all polished and pretty. They say they have no fitment problems and you do not have to pull the studs off so it should fit as well as the HKS which I have. I'm thinking of buying this and the mid and give My HKS to my dad for his FD (it still looks brand new after a year)

I don't know if anyone here had bought off this seller on E-Bay but it would be interesting to hear about the fit if anyone has.

The HKS "crimp" as it is referred to is an exact copy of the stock downpipe's cast area so you know it will have the same fitment as the stock and my install went very smoothly.

There was a post a few months about the ebay pipe. It was pretty badly rated. The ppl selling it was pretty rude too as I recall. I would do business with ppl that have issues...
