Smile Down Pipe ---Which gives more HP

I just bought the Apex GT- Spec exhaust system and I was told a DP will really increase the HP and also increase reliablity of my turbos. Which one is the best DP -- i was looking at HKS ..Can you help ?

You might want to do a search on this. HKS is made out of mild steel, which gets screwed over time. I'd just JET coat it and wala. If you arent going to jet coat your DP get an M2 Stainless Steel DP. Both of these units make things a lot easier during installation.

If you want to keep your exhaust SS then go with a SS DP....But if you dont really care, then go with the HKS...

I have it on my car and for $199 you cant go wrong. Get it from Jason at the RX7 store.

SS is stainless steal. You definitly want to go with ss unless you are coating it. M2 has one of the nicest with pretty much the easiest installation. Also it is ss and 3"!!

They will all give you roughly the same performance increase. The main thing is to make sure the pipe is Stainless Steel or that you get it coated if it's not.

M2, Bonez, Pettit (and I'm sure many others) all have SS pipes.

The only way to go illegal is if you replace the stock cat. With the downpipe you are only replacing the precat. Mine passed emissions with flying colors. I have since gotten a hi flow cat and cat back so my chances of passing are slimming but I should be okay. If you go with a midpipe you will definitly be illegal. So I would go with any of the ss dp and you will not have a worry until you replace the stock cat. relax you will be fine, enjoy the car

Watch out for the catch-all ruling stating that removing ANY emissions equipment is a violation, even though the pre-cats do not appear on the underhood emissions label nor do smog-monkeys look for it. I wouldn't sweat it as long as the car is tested warm. The car runs rich enough to overwhelm the main cat at cold start, so it may red-flag. Mild steel downpipe is not as pretty, but it will likely outlast the life of the car/engine if you live in a sunbelt state.
