Door Question

Why does the passenger side door sound solid and shuts perfectly and the driver side door sounds tinny and never shuts without extra force? My neighbor's
car (identical to mine) does the same thing. Any suggestions on what I need to adjust? I can't believe adjusting it will make a diff in the sound though.
I haven't taken them apart yet cause I'm driving it a lot right now.
Is there suppose to be some insulation in there I could be missing?

Inside the door there's a side impact crash bar that becomes un-stuck from the outer door skin - when that happens you get the tinny closing sound. The hard closing is typically the door being a bit misaligned, either from a previous wreck or from the door being open and people leaning on the door.

I had a buddy a long time back with an FD with the driver's door sagging quite a bit. We put a jack under the door with a towel between it and the door, loosened the door mounting bolts, and brought the door up a hair and re-tightened the bolts. Good to go. But, you'll have to study how the door closes to see why it's misaligning.

Dale's completely right. Here's a small write-up I did a little while ago:

You can also throw some sound deadening in the door while you're in there, and your door will sound like it belongs on a cadallac.

I've also seen a door that had a piece of foam that basically was bolted to the impact beam. Looked really professional. Like "Mazda designed it that way". Maybe Dale knows of this.

You may also find the hinge pins are worn. Mine is like this. No adjustment can fix this problem. Try moving the door up and down at the handle end when just open. If it moves the hinge pins are worn. It is possible to replace them, but not with Mazda's help. They don't have a kit. The pins would have to be drilled out and replacements found/machined.

This brings to fore lubrication of door hinge pins. They should be lubricated with spray-on white grease at least once a year. Also do the hood and hatch hinges, and the hood latch. Don't forget the fuel door too.

It only took me one time...pulling up to the gas pump in my bad *** hot rod and not being able to get the fuel door open before I slinked away, went home and super lubed that bad boy.

Yeah i had that prob, a trucks rear bunmper caught on the inside of my wheel arch when the stupid driver(of the truck) was trying to squeeze by and dented all the rear quarter and smashed the filler cap. When i got it back from being rerpaired i took it to the gas station and couldn't get the cap open and eventually ran out on the way back to rant and rave at the garage for a shoddy job. knightmare! when i did eventually get there all it neeeded was some lube on the new hinge!

One thing for sure is the 93's didn't have the sound deadening material in the doors, the 94 and 95 have it. If you have the 93 model adding the sound material will solve the tinnie sound (reminds me of the Datsun B210) when closed. If the door allignment looks good just adjust the door striker as it may be too tight.
