Door not opening from outside :(

Ok so this morning I wake and am get ready to go out to church, I unlock my FD and pull on the handle and it doesn't open.

I don't know what happened, it still opens from the inside and lock and unlocks but it just doesn't open from the outside. I had to open the passenger door and open it from the inside to get in, does anyone know of this symptom happening? I don't live anywhere cold, I live in Florida. It didn't get cold last night so the doors couldn't have frozen. Any and all input would be great, this is freakin embarrassing having to crawl across the passenger side to open my door

theres a rod that connects the handle with the door lock. try to bend it a little(to go either up or down) but dont do it too much. or u can get a new one from mazda.

unbolt the 2 10mm bolts from the inside the car(behind the door handle) and try play with it a bit

there are 2 rods btw.. one thick and one thin.. its the thin one ..which goes on the upper side

Is there any resistance while you pull on the handle? If no, then you got a broken handle, don't worry, it happens to a lot of people. We are currently running a GB on aluminum handles to take care of these problems.

If there is, follow R-R-Rx7's instruction and take apart the assembly, it will be very simple to tell what's wrong with it by just looking at the inside.

Before you bend anything, take the door handle off of the car. (all you need to do is pull of the trim triangle on the inside of the car and remove the three nuts holding it on). Actuate the handle a few times and look at the mechanical workings of it. There are several springs. I had the same problem (handle not opening the door) I cleaned all the old goo off of the springs and mechanicals, and relubed it up with some new lithium lube. Works like a charm. Handle works great now.

or, something else that goes in my mind is that if the connecting rod is out of place since its connected with just plastic connectors ..

Exactly. And as JKL said earlier, if you have NO resistance at all, it is one thing but a whole 'nother thing if you feel SOMETHING.

These doors have about 6 major rods and a couple of cables, and it doesn't take much for them to get out of whack and quit opening.

Once you get the door open, go ahead and take off the door panel, remove the protective plastic and all that. Then LOOK closely at all the mechanisms, it is pretty clear how it all works once you see it. You will likely see something either binding or not attached. You can reach in (watch the sharp metal!) and manually operate these various linkages to see what does what. It is also possible that actual door latch/lock assembly (the part that grabs the striker in the door) is on the fritz.

Good luck!

I feel resistance when using the handle it feels as if it's locked but just won't open even when it is unlocked. Does anyone have any pictures of exactly where to open this up at? I don't want to end up taking the wrong thing apart.

Nevermind thanks everyone got it fixed, it was the thin rod that was in there bent it up and now it works like a charm. Thanks again.
