So I bought this set of doors cards way back in 2002. They have been in the garage ever since. I'm away from the car and it's been 20 years since I've taken the door panels off, so I don't have an easy way to test them and can recall how they all snap together. I'm having my seats reupholster and was wondering if these cards could be salvaged and if I should send them to the interior shop! The passenger looks pretty decent but where the handle inserts attach on the driver's side the look a little beat up and am unsure how the pieces come together. Since the interior shop doesn't have the car they can't test fit and or fix the cards. I plan on squirreling away the originals but would hate to have these redone and then get them back only to find out assembly isn't possible...
So I'm posting the pics of the cards here to see what the forums think... Worth sending to the shop as is, or do I wait and send the plastic handles and inserts so the shop can test and repair these cards as needed.
Certain there is value in preserving the original door cards. The vinyl surface may come up surprisingly well if cleaned with a good interior vinyl protectant.
The foam bridges that the plastics sit on could be reinforced with "JB Weld". There are metal braces that should go under the foam bridges.
Hopefully you have saved those. If not you may want to get your tinsnips out and refashion a set.
Getting good condition original plastic trim are difficult to find, especially the "textured" pieces found in 1995 cars.
If you have a set they should fit back into the cards fairly intuitively.
If you can get a copy of the parts catalogue, the schematics in the catalogue give a good idea how the parts fit together.
The grouping of three pieces with two white pieces in the pic below, are the three mounting points for the door card that you should find on each door. There should be three corresponding black nubs * on the door card that fit into the "C" shape receiver. You will also need to get three white plugs that mount in the keyhole shaped posts on the door card that then wedge into the door inner face. (* three ***** are held in place by three long screws that are screwed in from the outside through the holes fond on the outer edges of the door card).
There are usually three metal hangers on the top of the door card that allow the card to hang on the top rail of the inner door face. Yours seem to be largely missing. There are 3D printed replicas of such hangers.
