Unhappy Does this boost problem mean turbos are shot?

Hey guys,

I just need to know if my problem seems like the turbos are shot.

I have had my car at the mechanics for awhile and he say's the car spits a lot of smoke that smells like oil. I have never had this problem before, even on start up's it would only smoke a tad if the oil was getting to the end of its life. My boost problem is a max psi of 8 and the secondary comes in at 2 psi and slowly rises to about 5 psi to redline.

I have checked the CCA, BOV, CRV, IC hoses, Y pipe connector, Did the WD-40 spray trick on the rubber vacuum lines. My turbo's boosted perfectly fine until this problem about a month ago. If my car ever smoked it was at start up and for a like a few seconds.

Does this sound like the turbos have gone, they have 35-40k miles on them.

My mechanic hasn't really looked into it, until tomorow. Just wanted to get an overview so he isn't feeding me a line of BS.

I seriously doubt the turbos are shot, just need to be told I have no worries, or somehting to worry about.

P.S. one time on the weekend I did a good burnout and my car was smoking pretty good, enough to see out of your rear view mirror and did't stop until 5 mins later with car just idleing. Took off got some highway miles and went home and wasn't smoking then or on start up the next day. Could it be a oil line leaking or busted? This was a long while back when my turbos were still boosting fine.

Should I go to non-seq. to see if i can boost them up properly? I have the tools to do it and materials, just need to do it.

Thank You,
Jonas

I don't think you've got the same problem, but it's worth a shot, IMO. Take a look at your y-pipe.

So I had the exact same problem with my car a few months ago. Blowing lots of gray / white smoke at startup. Boost was maybe 5 and then 2 or nothing after that. Mechanic told me the seals and what not in the turbo were shot. That was the reason for the smoke. The reason for no boost was this. All the oil that was being burnt from the leaky seals caused the main cat (downpipe?) to clog.

Spent the money to rebuild the turbos, and replaced the downpipe, and no smoke and lots of boost.

**** **** ****. I didn't see this coming, wouldn't you think I would notice when the turbos were going. It's not like the go out all at once. I have no restriction in the exhuast as my sig. says. DP, gutted main cat, and catback.

It couldn't hurt going non-sequential. The boost problem could be unrelated from your turbos leaking oil. External oil leakage doesn't mean that the turbos won't boost properly, just that they'll be messy. It means you'lll have to rebuild/replace them pretty soon anyway, but your boost problems could be cured without the rebuild.
