So my buddy and i were just ordering some grub from bk and while we were waiting in line at the drive
through, i saw a puff of smoke coming from the front right side of the hood.
I immediately shut off the engine and popped the hood. After a minute or two of inspection...no smoke.
So i turn her back on and pull off to the side and pop the hood again, this time with the engine running.
No smoke, then i turned the engine off and saw smoke coming from the y-pipe area. Not exactly sure where
because the smoke only lasted for a fraction of a second. (just a small puff of smoke)
Upon looking at the y-pipe closer, i noticed that it was
a little damp - some oil/water/grease of some sort on some parts (is that normal?).
It happened one other time a long time ago. Every time it happened, the engine was either idling or just turned off. Oh yeah, I also just had the oil changed today(i dunno if that's relevant).
So what's up with that? Is there a small leprechaun in there blazin up a joint?

'sup. If there is oil on your y-pipe (see pic of my y-pipe),

then I believe what is happening is that you have a small leak in your rubber coupler that is allowing oil to drip out on to your y-pipe under low pressure (idle) which then drips on to your hot turbo manifold and causes smoke. See if your circle clamps on the rubber coupler are tight. You will probably need to remove the secondary (rear) turbo intake rubber pipe that goes to the air box. Try posting this in the 3rd gen forum.

P.S. Were you revving your engine?

 

also inspect the oil lines and coolant lines going to your turbo's to see if they are tight. it's probly oil and probly does have to do with your oil change.

Jonski is right just clean the area off first with carberator cleaner and then tighten the clamps. Run the engine and inspect for leaks.

haha...yah! i had to go to campus for grad school orientation...did u bring ur fd up?

 

I can't. I'm afraid of what my "fellow intellectuals" will do to it, and I don't really have the finances to deal with a situation like CYM TKT had. I couldn't find any safe place to keep it, so I just left it at home and asked my father to take it for a drive every week or so. *sniff* I miss it already.

 

i had that problem.. Also check that the coupler.. sometimes they tear and thus the same deal..
