Does anybody recognize this FD3S?

Anybody know the owner of this car? She's a beauty and I'm really excited to pick her up but would like to get a bit of history on the car. Anybody recognize it and know the owner? I think he may be on the forums because there seems to be a rx7club.com sticker on his window!

Also what mods can you guys see that are done to the car? From what I can tell:

- Front bumper/lights
- Strut tower brace
- Wheels (what kind are they? gram wheels?)
- exhaust of some sort

Any thoughts appreciated!!

Strut seems to be bent? Or is it just the picture...

Your kidding right?! That car is a POS just by looking at the pictures.

Theres definitely something wrong with the front end. The hood doesn't close right, and look in the center "mouth" of the front bumper cover. Somethings going on in there! lol

Is it just me, or do those wheels stick out past the fender?!

There's a clear sign of the car being wrecked!! Look at that strut bar. It's clearly bent, and there's no way that happened from racing or anything. It's definitely been slammed in the front end. That's probably why there's an aftermarket front bumper cover, and aftermarket front fenders. It was either cheaper to fix it that way, or he figured he mise well change things up since it all had to be replaced.

Another sign of an accident. Look at that door. Can you not tell that it's not closing correctly?! A simple realignment of the door *might* fix it, but I doubt it.

-Feed front bumper cover and fenders. Probably a knock off. The turn signals are the factory "99 spec." It also looks like there's a cf hood. Oh, and "99 spec" wing.
-STB is a factory R1/R2, although clearly not usable.
-Not sure on the wheels
-Appears to be the RB duals.

If you are serious about buying this car, i'd stay the hell away.

-Alex

Edit: Just noticed that it appears to be in a salvage yard. That could explain alot! lol

Thanks for the comments. Yes it's actually an insurance auction car. I plan to import it into Canada. The only problem that I was told that is wrong with it is that there is some sort of "mechanical" problem. Apparantly it runs and drives fine. Here is a pic that was accompanied with the "mechanical problem" comment:

I'm not quite sure what's wrong. I'm hoping to pickup the car for about $3700 usd. Should have it here within $6000 cdn.

I would stay away from that car!! Unless you know how to do body work and engine repair, then you'll be in for a roller coaster ride.

It could take quite some time to even figure out the "mechanical" problems. Especially when there's hoses cut/missing. Hell, for all you know, that motor could be ready to take a dump.

With the money you'd have to put in that car to get it back in perfect running condition, and repair the frame/body work, you'd be better off buying an rx7 in perfect running condition, without body damage.

-Alex

Edit: The hoses that are shown in that picture would normally go to the air (intake) box, which is missing from the car.

Thanks guy. The aftermarket goodies were what really caught my eye. Seemed like it had quite a few decent mods on it. I agree this car would be a "roller coaster ride"..

Although it may part out for more than $4k. So hopefully some of the key parts are in good shape and if you get in a pinch with it, straighten it out.

If I were you, I'd give it to TurboJeff and get busy working overtime while he works to pay for it.

aside from what's been mentioned, there's no intake. I'm not sure why someone would spend the money to put replica feed fenders and front end on the car and not replace the strut bar? maybe the strut bar is holding things together and a new one wouldn't fit lol.

There is some core support damage, you can tell by looking @ the pic around the headlight, which is not a really big deal, if you can replace it. When I bought my car the core support was damaged and I bought a new one and had it replaced. It also looks like there are some relays and other thing damaged also.

That front turbo compressor is open to the elements and any animals that may want to crawl in. I would stay far far away.

You get what you pay for! I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot pole, unless you can perform all the work yourself or have a great hookup!

I do recognize that car from the forum, and it wasn't always in such beat-up looking shape. If I can find a thread where a picture was posted I'll let you know.

Looks like it also has Evans coolant (or he just put the sticker on there). I would stay far, far away from that car. Aside from the thousands of dollars in body work that needs to be done, the engine is probably dead or about to die. There is probably a bunch of crap inside the turbos also from being open.

Yes but all that **** was smashed up. Maybe they changed it with some cheap stuff, and got it ready to sell? Just a guess.

ryan, the car is definately not in a state to be repairable. i'm going to just part it out and stray away from cars for a little while. probably go get a new bike and have fun with it for a while. i finally got the settlement today. they ended up giving me 17,900 for it, minus a $500 deductable, so that left 17,400. the buy back ended up being $2500. so all in all, i ended up pretty good with the insurance. now i just have to find someone to pawn all my crap off on
this quote is from that thread...
