Happens a lot. I think im the only FD in tiny town TX. Most people ask what kind of car is that and are shocked to hear its a 93. One day I came out of work and there was a note on the winshield "are you willing to sell this car, please let me know if you ever want to sell it" accompanied by a name and phone number.

 

People always mistake my car for a Corvette...very annoying

 

the FD is just a really good looking car no wonder mazda stuck with the design from 92-02 not sure why they stopped and switched to the rx-8. It kind of like when you have a friends thats super model status every time you see them you're like damn you're beautiful. sometimes i walk outside in the morning and just look at the car and say the same thing. even though i've had the car for a while now. just be happy everyone else thinks you're car is better looking, newer, and faster than most cars on the road. still can't believe that my car is 17 years old

 

Yeah it sucks, you'd think it'd be a chick magnet but attracts more guys then girls lol. Imagine living in a country where there is only 3 FDs and most young boys have seen The Fast and The Furious and youtube drift videos lol. I kind of get sick of talking with strangers about my RX7 and how it has no pistons, high fuel consumption, it's hp, it's price etc. etc. Same questions over and over......

Happened to me too.

 

Ive been pulled over 5 or 6 times this year for doing absolutley nothing but driving.
Cops just want to check out my car.
One cop asked me how much boost was i running?
And when you are a good citizen then they think of crap to pull you over for
Like a tinted license plate or my xenon lights which are 6000K and the cop claimed he saw a blue tint.
Last time i got pulled over it was for my exhaust, but the cop realized this wasnt my DD when i showed him my papers and let me loose after the drug dog sniffed around.

 

Makes you feel good though, huh?

 

The question I get the most - and hate the most:

"I thought all Miatas were convertibles...."

 

I had a car full of girls pull along side of me on the highway and take pictures with their phones, forgot about that.

The first time I took it on the highway some junk *** Integra pulled along side me and started revving, then took off. I just shook my head.

 

yea all guy like the car wanna race and all that...

but i had girls tell me the car gets them horny...or they get wet when i gun it...plus i did some of them bent right on the hood thats right...

i guess they like to check out the front end while i take care of there rear end

but if any one thought my car is corvette i would flip out on them

 

yep, I get a lot of the same attention too when I drive my FD.

THere was this one time that I was at the stop light. I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed that the guy behind me opened his door. He got out of his car, walked up to me and knocked on my window. He was an older guy, maybe in his 60's. He asked me, "Hey what kind of car is that? I've been following you and just can't stop looking at it." I nicely told the guy what car it was and then the lights flickered green and I told him, 'better get bak in your car"

The surprising thing was it was in a busy intersection too, and he just walked up like we were parked in the parking lot Lol.

 

well usually when i drive around with my FD everybody turns to see it cos of the annoying (for them) impressive sound of the engine...so im pretty used to the stares and i ignore them.

the best (or worst) thing is that sometimes i get followed by people that just want to see it...once it happened that a guy stopped me to say "thank you cos you gave me the possibility of seeing an rx-7 live!" (not very common to see one here in italy!)

cops are kinda annoying, but i do exactly like you, 20mph at most to pass unnoticed...

 

The wifey commented the other day about how she still can't believe how many people stop what they are doing and stare at the FD when we are cruising around. Even while they are driving!!

 

Ha, same thing happened to me once. Was at a light when this sketchy looking dude ran up to my car to tell me how nice it looked. I thought I was about to get car jacked.

 

Everyone looks. Just the other day I was eyeballed by a guy in a vintage 911.

I've only been pulled over once, and that was because he was upset that I was the last in line and interrupted him trying to bust someone else.

 

Basically the same reactions here. Lots of stares, and even more attention when another member and I met up for a short drive.

One thing that does get annoying is the rev's from the damn hondas and muscle cars around here. It gets old real fast. Most of the lil ricer boys I just laugh at and they get pissed and drive off. Sometimes the muscle car idiots just get on my nerves too much and they end up provoking me into stomping them...

I had one DUMBASS ask me if I had POLYURATHANE Apex seals cause they were the best and wouldn't blow.....

I had one retard ask me if I was running methanol, propane, or kerosene as fuel when I dropped a friend off at her house... I had to speak REAL "slow like" to him until he moved out.. same guy asked me why I got rid of the stock headlights.. (I have pop-ups and a MS A-Spec front bumper)

A grade school kid came up to my car and asked if he could take a picture with his phone when I was leaving the same neighborhood at a later date. The kid was cool as **** and we chatted for 3-4 minutes while I waited for the light.

Typically I just get LOTS of stares, rarely ever do I have people rev like they wanna race, but then again, I'm pushing BNR's at 17psi with full, free flow, exhaust so my car sounds kinda mean..

I had a cop come to my door one time to ask if I had been driving near the University earlier (I had, and I was "playing" so this had me worried!) that day. Apparently he saw me parked while I was getting a haircut, we ended up bullshitting about cars for almost an hour!

Other times I had cops stop me at lights to ask what kind of car it was, and where my plates were from (still had UK tags on it from living in England).

It def isn't a car to drive if you want to sneak around and avoid notice...

 

It doesn't happen a whole lot but maybe it's because I barely drive the thing....1k in 5 years maybe? But it's running well right now so I'm driving more and THIS just happened like 2 hours ago... and it's funny because I was just following this thread last night. I'll try to keep it short.

Pull out of work and see an STI on the right lane and he noticeably slows. I pass him slowly as I'm in warm-up mode and get into PP2 at the next light with him in 4 behind me. Open road ahead of me but a cop station is also right there and....I'm not a (complete) idiot. Still warming too. He tails me the whole time I'm accelerating out of the light not going above 3k rpm!! Like on my ***! 1.5 miles later with him behind me the whole time (not tailing), I'm about to right merge to get on the FWY but a car is going WAY slow in front of me so I zip left to go around and then over 2 lanes right to get on the merge, still respectably IMHO. He follows and FLIES by me continuing on the main road as I'm on the merge lane. Next thing you know, a cop zips by me and lights up as I'm going up the ramp! Sorry about your luck Soob! The cop must have been on HIS *** the whole time and the Soob was too zoned into besting the RX that he didn't check his surroundings that whole 2 mile stretch. Hilarious!! Karma.

And now I'm on the FWY.....with a hot RX (with suspension issues but that's this summer's project, I digress)....and it's MY turn to become the a-hole!! The power and the exhaust. It's so dangerous but I cannot stop. (I'll add handling once I get the suspension tuned and then learn how to drive it.)

The car attracts. Bottom line.

I got the only in my hometown to and for probably a half hour in all directions to. All you get is wide eyed stares and head shakes because of your louder then eveyone elses exhaust

i too always get thats it looks like a mini vette, then i tell em my car is a lil older then the vette they're thinking about and they get all O_o

I had a guy in a old school convertible Celica come up and ask me if they made FD's in convertible and when i told him no he got all bumbed out

Ive been driving my car everyday lately and everyday is always something different

 

I actually picked RX7 TRBO for my vanity plate because of that question. I usually just say "yes, all 3rd gen RX-7's are turbo". Except one time I told a guy that and he confidently told me about his cousins 93 RX-7 that wasn't turbo and that Mazda made non-turbo models. Ugh.....

Personally I never get messed with by the cops. When I was 16 I had a loud *** Honda Civic and would get constantly messed with by the cops and would get pulled over on a regular basis. In contrast my RX is even louder then my Honda was and in the 7 years of owning it I have been pulled over only once for loud exhaust.
