Do third gen injectors leak like second gen?

Just wondering, On a second gen and first gen FI, the fuel injectors leaking is a common problem. Is it the same for third gens? Did Mazda use the same brand injectors?
I own many second and first gen cars, but am new to the FD's. I have a smoke on startup issue that just started a few weeks ago. This is on a fresh engine.
When I changed the oil yesterday it had a strong fuel smell.
Just curious.

They do leak but they are not the same injectors. The fuel smell is most likly a fuel dampener and should be changed asap. The smoke is most likely something else like the turbos.

No, it's not a raw fuel smell under the hood. It is fuel in the oil smell. I know what a dampner problem is/smells/looks like. I have replaced a few.
Would the turbos cause a smoke on startup issue?

Possibly turbos - could also be something goofed with your PCV system.

To answer the first question, FC injectors are VERY different - FD's are side feed, FC are top feed.

Yea, I thought about the PCV system also.
Is that just a matter of replacing the valve? If so, that's probably something I should do anyway.

Turbo's were NOT rebuilt or replaced when the engine was done. And so they are a little suspect with me. I am not familiar with turbo cars, I am a N/A guy. Would aging turbos cause a startup smoke problem?

Did the engine blow, as in barf an apex seal? If so, it's quite likely one of the turbine blades was chipped by an apex seal piece on the way out. If that happens, they go out of balance and chew up the bearings. My turbos lasted about a year before they started smoking.

Good thing is used turbos are pretty easy and inexpensive to obtain.

Do some searching on the PCV system. You can actually eliminate the PCV valve itself - they did away with it in '95, it's a damn good idea.

I dont' know for sure why the previous engine blew. It was a seventeen year old PO, and I know that he opened up the exhaust without the proper fuel management. So an apex seal heading out the exhaust is definitely a possibility.

I saw on Rob Robinettte's site an article on how to remove the PCV system. I will go back and take another look and maybe head that way.
Thanks for all of the replies without the standard "GO SEARCH".
