Not to mention there is a search button and I dare to say that about 99% of every newbie question that's ever been asked can be found via search (if they use it correctly) or using the links provided in the sticky at the top of the 3rd gen section.

Yes, but these are not problems that are "FD related". These problems exist in EVERY forum. Just look at any computer forum for video cards, game support, etc... People just jump on and post a question without searching or looking for "stickies".

That's just people being lazy and it's not limited to just this forum.

Hell, half the members of this forum want someone else to solve their problems for them. They'll post a question without even looking at anything. And then, when they don't get a reponse back in 10 minutes, start complaining. Once they actually break out the manual and solve the problem themselves, they then deem the forum useless and call everyone "dumb*sses" just because they didn't get help. Yea, that really makes the forum much better.

Instead, people could just post "Hey, I found the problem and here was the solution in case someone else runs into this later".

As I said in my earlier post, if you want a mature forum, you have to act mature. It can't be do as I say, it has to be do as I do. Lead by example.

A few months ago, one of our "less experienced" members posted a thread requesting help with a loud knocking sound when secondary boost should have come on. I offered a suggestion that corrected a similar problem with my car. He and his buddies turned the thread into a knock knock joke. He didn't respond to my suggestion or thank me. No one else bothered to try to help him. Now I know why.

This juvenile behavior has made me not want to help at times. By the way, I searched for the thread but didn't find it.

All right, here are some FD-specific pet peeves of mine...

A thread starts on FD purchase price and everyone piles in to one-up each other on what great deals they got on their cars. First one guy says he got his mint low-mile car for $18k, then someone else chimes in to top him and say they paid only $16k. Soon you have people falling all over themselves to prove they got a better deal than everyone else when they bought their FD...

Fast forward. Another thread starts up on the resale price of the FD, and the same damn people are piling on, bitching about the resale value of FDs and how they're selling for rock bottom prices. So-and-so had a CYM R1 in excellent condition with tons of mods and got nearly nothing for it, and so on. The very same people who were so proud of their low purchase prices are now bitching about others selling (without even considering the possible reasons) for low prices, "bringing the value of their cars down". WTF??

Apparently when you're on the outside looking in, you want people to give away their cars for free, more or less, and then when you're on the inside looking out, you want everyone to hold out for the highest prices so that it'll drive the book value up to make yours worth more.

And don't even get me started on the people already prophesying collectability while they blithely modify the hell out of their cars and use them for daily drivers...

And then there are the people who want to brag about their little 1.3 liters when the rotary comes out on top, but want to use the same 1.3 liter displacement as an excuse if they get beaten... "yeah, but if the rotary was 5.7 liters, then those darn Corvettes (or whatever) would be getting their butts handed to them", or "if all the money that's been put into the development of small blocks had been put into the rotary, it'd be an entirely different story".

In all three examples, you can't have it both ways. You can't brag about purchase price and bitch about sale prices at the same time. You can't hypothesize about the collectable nature of FDs while you modify your personal example and drive it into the ground. And you can't use the 1.3 liter displacement of the 13B-REW for bragging rights in one breath, and then whine about how it's not fair comparing them to V8s because the V8s have so much more displacement and R&D behind them with the next.

I think that might be what bothers me the most about many current FD owners... they're a bunch of bitchy, whiny hypocrites.

I'd like to see prices stay up. And I'd be willing to spend the money to get another 3rd gen in excellent condition. I'd go up to 30k for the right CYM. But I've seen that many times too. " Can I buy a mint '95 R2 for less than $5.27?" Where can I get the cheapest this or that." "What BOV is the loudest." "Will the FD be a good High school car?"The FD has lost a lot of it's luster to me for this very reason.
That is what prompted this

As the price of an FD goes down, so will the maturity of the owner. When I first got my FD, I would check out the forum all the time. I posted my share of newbie questions, as I'm sure most people here have. As time went on, I learned a lot about the car. There were a lot of informative posts being posted all the time. Nowadays, it seems like it's the same stupid questions over and over. It's just habit for me to check out the forum. I hardly read anything. I have to force myself to check it out sometimes. Maybe the topics aren't good anymore, or maybe I've learned enough that the everyday questions seem stupid. I used to think that the forum sucks, but then I realized I wasn't contributing much to make it better. I don't see some of the people complaining posting any great threads either.

I am so F*king mad at my parents... I was caught driving 160 mph in a 25. I then get home and the cops are waiting for me. Then my parents made me give me the keys to my own car!!! Yea, they are paying for it and for the insurance, but it is my car.

And the cops were such a pain in the ***. That kid I hit is going to be OK so what's the F*king big deal?

I feel it all comes down what many people have already said, people are lazy and would find it easier to post ?? than search for answers...
But the real smart "veterans" of the forum will run an 8 page post about how dumb all the newbies are...
Making them feel bad about coming on to this forum looking for help...
Seriously if it werent for the dumb questions what would we talk about, fact is people like answering dumb questions because guess what "they are easier" and it makes them feel smarter, if I saw less pissing & moning threads that pop up when searching around this sight I would be a more happy person coming on here as well on top of that the age discrimination here is rediculous, Im 20 and work 2 jobs, one which I make at least equal to more what you "non-newbie" guys make and another just for fun, so lets not go on and on about how some 19 yr old punk gets all his **** handed to him on a silver f**king platter... keep you bitching to yourself and post knowledge, this will make this a much happier forum...

There should be a stiff fine and temporary suspension associated with reviving a long dead thread out of nothing more than sheer boredom. The length of time since the last post and the more inane the post that revived the thread, the higher the fine and longer the suspension should be.

Its quite simple- support an inspiration for people to change themselves into something better than this. Defiance is not supported through perpetuating the stereotypes in which you disapprove of.

It's the people that posted in this thread about how they want the forum more technical, yet post into threads stuff like "OMG, here we go again" that aren't helping the situation. Sometimes I wonder who the real 17 year olds are....

If you want a mature forum, you have to act mature.
For a third time, it bothers me b/c 1) it adds noise which makes it difficult to target informative threads, 2) turns off senior/knowledable people (if you dont believe me subscirbe to the big list), and 3) it is annoying.

In addition, i am confused why you would choose to single me out by questioning my maturity level..."Sometimes I wonder who the real 17 year olds are...."
More then ten people have made sarcastic comments and by doing so have expressed thier dissatisfaction with alot of the topics/general maturity level of many forum memebers.
Rather then being sarcastic..i choose to express my thoughts point blank...and you attack me for it...whats up with that?

blah....i am done.
