"Have not yet installed" is better than "I heard my friend say these parts were cool, so I will pretend I am buying them."

I hate when guys that have R-1's ask questions like "Which (insert any mod here) is the best for an R-1" Like the fact that the car is an R-1 makes a difference.

it is really out of hand now. About 6 months ago there was a similar thread to this one. We then began a discussion on a way to correct the problem. Initially, I defended the people that posted crap in a technical forum. I have since learned the errors of my ways.
We need to end this MODS. Lets have some type of demerit system or something. I cant sift thru the noise anymore...it is ridiculous. If I post a comment on a crap thread to please post a to the legimate forum and the attack me like a pack of wolves.

About two months ago i would check the rx7forums several times a day for new info/insight. Lately, I would only check a couple of times a week simply b/c of the 'less thought out' posts. I'm not sure for the reasoning behind this.

The rx7forums has always been a good friendly place for information and where we can all bond on our love for the rotary engine.

If you guys/gals visit other car interest forums, questions such as the above are very normal, and even encouraged.

my penny to the pile..

not all newbies are wastes of space...im new to the rx7 but by no means new to cars...i only have a few posts because id rather sit around and suck up info rather than post useless crap.

and there will always be people jumping on the bandwagon..its a fast car..that alot of people can afford now...your alwasy gonna get the kids that finaly talked their daddys to buy them one for their 16th b-day...but then your gonna get new "real" car people that love cars and live by them...i myself have no other hobbies other than working on my friends awd talon..or whatever we can get our hands on...i sold my last car that i had over 10k invested into not including the cost of the car..in search of a 3rd gen

more posts dosnt make u higher on the food chain...im 20 and i know ive had more experience with turbo cars than a a good amount of people on here

Well, I'll get on my soapbox for a minute...

You are only seeing what the older forum members have already been seeing for a while. The main problem is the constant flaming that happens. It turns bad threads even worse. Instead of yelling or putting down the newbies, if people help get them going that will reduce the risk of more lame threads from those newbies.

If you see a thread that needs to be locked or moved (or moderated in any way) hit the "REPORT" button. It sends an email to the forum moderators. The only person that ever does this currently is DomFD3S and the mods thank him for his help.

There will always be the "Hey this is my first post and I want a 3rd gen" threads. I've been pointing them to info and then locking the threads. However people jumping in those threads (before they are locked) and saying crap like "oh no, here comes other wrecked car" or other stuff isn't constructive. Granted, everyone has their own opinions. They just need to realize that they don't always need to be voiced.

As for the BOV, large tachometer installs, and other threads.. Sure they aren't the things that hardcore engine tuners care to read about, but at least they aren't "how do I hook up my street glow lights" questions.

The main things that are my pet peves are one two things:

1. People responding to a thread saying the exact same thing as someone before them. It's stupid to reply and say "Yea, do what Bubba said". I don't know how many threads I see where someone will ask a question and the first 4-5 responses are the exact same thing (I'm not talking about when they all reply within a minute or two between each other).

2. People who have a problem, but won't even start narrowing down the problem area. I've seen so many threads here where people don't want to even open the hood until they have about 50 responses to their question. Sort of like "Hey, my boost only goes to 8 PSI, any ideas what the problem could be?". It would be nice to see someone say "Hey, my boost only goes to 8 PSI. I've checked this, that, and the other thing and still the same problem. Any other suggestions?".

As far younger kids being able to afford the car, well, don't be mad at them... be mad at the people selling the FD's so cheap. In my mind, an FD (even at almost 10 years old) with $10k worth of mods shouldn't be sold at $17,000. IMO, something like that should sell around $25,000. However, people are letting these cars go for so cheap. Sucks for me, as when/if I go to sell my car I'm not going to get squat for it. If people who sold FD's didn't let them go for so cheap (no matter what KBB says) then that $16-17k would be going to cars like Tiburon for youngsters instead of FD's.

Ok, stepping off the soapbox...

Dear TwinTurboTeddy,

I know you don't know me, but I am a HUGE RX-7 fan. I saw your car on http://www.jayspec7.com/ttteddy.html. I wanted to ask if you had any information on way's to Order JDM parts for RX-7's. I am looking to get a 95 RX-7 and build the engine to J-Spec. If you have any info. you can send me, I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Well said Mahjik.

No one is forcing you guys to read the noob threads. I agree that they do get annoying after awhile, but I just think that most of them dont even own the car, and are living in fantasy land - so I dont pay too much attention to it.

But it is unfair to generalize that teens are all idiots... hell we all were at one point.

He went from a 4-rotor (said he was just kidding) to a T-78 on a 2-rotor to a single turbo 3-rotor in about a month.

I have to admit, though, that his nitrous fire story is a strong contender for the award for the biggest crock of **** ever posted in the Lounge...

LOL, ricer on ricer

This is so stupid I almost cashed into another car.I live in Chicago and was just at the Drivers Image shop if anybody knows it.I picked up my order of new injectors and e-brake boot, and was ready to leave.I get out of the shop and get into my car. I see two extremely riced out civics and a nice 99 VR-4 parked beside me.(weren't there when I came in). So I start her up and the VR-4 owner wants a quick rev and burnout to see if he could hang with me. I said OK and we line up on McCormick BLVD. (huge street) which was preety empty. The ricers want to join so they jump in their cars and are about to get on the street to line up with us. Now imagine this, there was a blue one and a red one. The red one gets out of his space and waits for the other car.Now they're one behind each other beside us on DI's parking lot which is next to the street and only devided by a 5 inch high wall. The VR-4 and I are waiting for them and are laughing cuz we would have smoked them. But what happened next was amazing to watch and scary as ****.

The lead car, like out of a tank shoots out a 15 foot blaze of fire out of the exhaust and lights up the blue car like a bon fire.I have no idea what the dude did but he must have had like 6 ******* gallons of NOS on him to shoot that flame.Anyway the driver of the burning car gets out safely and they put out the fire.Paint was almost gone all over the hood, bumper, tires, and roof. That was about it.What a dumbass.I wanna know what the hell he did. So sad,I never got to race the VR but we're hooking up for a drink saturday, so i'm looking forward to that.

NOS is for pussies, real men buy 3rotors.And not civics.

well for me...i dont mind the "which exhaust is better" thread as much as i mind the "how do u drive a fd" thread or the "how do i install a coat hanger to make my BOV sound like vin diesels" thread.
The difference is that you could teach someone how to use the search function and maybe even show them that most of the good responses have came out already.
You cant teach someone to discuss relevant technical feedback when their interest is sticking a coat hanger in their bov.
Dont get me wrong...i will post up an unrelated thread every now and then about the war or about soemthing i have seen that is funny....but i do atleast put them in the lounge where general BS is accepted.

In initial entry price maybe. But everytime I hear a new young member come on the forum excited about thier FD purchase, in the back of my head I wonder how long it will be before we hear from said person about how they can't afford the insurance or cost of replacing (insert part here) - crucial to getting them to and from school/work/etc - or worse.

Not hating at all, and more power to anybody that can be in a position to posess a nice car at such a young age. Hell, I wish I sported an FD (or the equivalent anyways) when I was in highschool. And, despite what a few zealots like to say (lamenting the potential loss of another sacred FD), it's theirs to do with as they please - whether it's to rice them out, abuse them, or wreck them.

Being a teenager does not make one a target (or should not anyways), but acting like (a less then mature) one will. Anybody visit the 'Beyond the redline website'? That 'teen' easily has more technical knowledge, skill and attention to detail working on the FD then likely 99% of the members here.

I think though - for those that have been here for more then a brief peroid of time - that we tend to assume a bit of ownership of the forum. It's frustrating to know that a great source of information/resource is being TFATF-ized.

As Mahjik says though, the best solution is to welcome the new owners, give advice as the best as we can, and let the FD owner demographic shake itself out over time. The true enthusiasts will still be here 2, 3, 4, etc years from now.

Daniel

Wow, the ***** thick right there.
Hhaha. If I just made commission on a $130,000+ deal, I wouldn't tell the guy to "shove it" for saying my car is ugly. Hell, he could f*ck my girlfriend.
