do i have a reman/rebuild?

hey guys, after reading the thread about saxyman's rebuild (and that powdercoating is too cool) I was thinking about my car. It has 131k on it (i know, but i got it super cheap) and I was wondering if it is possible that I have a reman or a rebuild and don't know it. There isn't anything wrong with it but I am just interested. Would a pro rebuild or a mazda reman show up on a carfax report? I got it through dealer who didn't know **** about it.

thanks
joe

Have the compression checked, that would give you a good idea, but it may be impossible to tell, my FD ran just fine untill i rebuilt it at 123k...

If you give your local dealer your VIN, they can give you a history of the car for free. It probably won't have a new engine on the list, but it does cover what all was done to the car under warranty, whether the recalls were done, etc. If an engine was replaced by a Mazda dealer, it might have it.

An experienced RX-7 guy could probably tell if the motor's been replaced. There's a number of little things that the factory does that most people don't do when they replace the motor - it's subtle. I'm not to that point yet with FD's (haven't been around enough of them) but I can totally tell if an FC has had an engine replaced.

Many times, unfortunately, if your car has that many miles and it runs strong, it's probably been replaced.

You can also try and track down the previous owners of the car and quiz them - I've done that before. It can be real tricky to get in contact with people, though .

A quick check, look at the water neck and waterpump housing. If they have been painted silver and that paint is peeling then it is likely a reman.

The paint matches aluminum color nearly exactly so look carefully.

If its a mazda reman, they usually stick a little blue tag on the front cover. Its located top right corner. It usually state the date when it was assembled.

Actually the bottom left of the motor, the bottom right if your facing the motor. It is right behind the vacuum tank, can't see it unless that is removed.
