You shouldn't have to do any kind of tapping. You just need to unplug and unbolt the OMP and install a block off plate. Remove the OM injectors and install a bolt with the correct thread in the aluminum rotor housing.

I assume you have a Power FC or aftermarket ECU.

Here are a few links with pics and video:

This is for an FC but is similar

I'm not understanding your question.

Typically you have cars with the OMP system intact. You can also run a small amount of premix in the fuel to add lubrication on top of the stock OMP.

Next would be blocking off the OMP and installing plugs where the oil injectors were. This requires you to fully premix with a higher amount. Also IMHO this doesn't do as good as the stock system since when there's no fuel flowing (like on decal) you have no lubrication at all.

Are you talking about doing it some other way - tapping the irons? I've not heard of that.

IMHO for a street car run the stock OMP system with no premix and you are good.

And just do regular oil changes a little closer together than the average DD.

Never heard of direct injection at the irons either.

i would say this also is referred to as the external oil mod.

I’m still not positive what you’re asking about. Other than leaving the working Oil Metering Pump (OMP) installed and functioning in stock configuration there are two options I’m aware of…

* Removing the OMP and lines as mentioned above, using a block off plate and plugs. This requires an aftermarket ECU because the stock ECU will immediately go into limp mode. It also requires premixing 2-cycle oil at 1oz. @ gallon of gas…which you can never forget.

* Installing an aftermarket Rotary Aviation sandwich adaptor between the OMP and engine, AND a remote reservoir of 2 cycle oil. This will inject that oil using the lines and stock injectors which are located in the housings, not the irons. And obviously you must package and maintain the reservoir.

This discusses the reasoning between those options along with yet a third ‘choice’ of sorts…premix at a reduced rate while keeping the stock OMP….

The only other oil mods I can think of are to replace the wax thermopellet or modify the oil pressure regulator. But neither of those is very “external”.

that is to get more oil to the front main bearing, has nothing to do with the metering system, except that they are both using engine oil
