Cool Digital dash pics

Couple people asked me for pics of the install of my dash logger , here they are . Please excuse the condition of everything else , since I'm still working on a lotta other stuff .

Looks very nice! One question: How is it all tied in, electronically speaking? In the stock guage pod, there are four major plugs that go in the back of the guages, then some of the data goes from there down to the ecu (kmh for example is converted from analog to digital at the speedo headunit, then transferred to the ecu).

Dod you have to change the entire dash harness?

Thanks,

Ian

The OEM dash harness is now obsolete , I onlu use it to get three signals , high beam and turn signals , this unit communicates directly with my ECU so I can see anything the ECU sees , even ignition advance and retard , split etc. , I use an Autronic SM2 ECU .Plus the dash has its own harness that can handle up io eight sensors .

What about speed? From my understanding, the speed sensor sends the signal directly to the speedometer, THEN that signal gets sent to the ecu. Does your digital display show your current speed? I wanted to do something just like that, but I need to know how fast I'm going. I know most race cars, it really is a useless peice of information.

The Autronic has two speed inputs independant of each other that it uses for traction control and boost control , it shares the ABS wheel speed sensors with the ABS computer . In the set up I had to put in the wheel size , each gear ratio and the diff ratio , the ECU would then calculate the speed and from that it would "know" what gear the car is in , enabling variable boost control . The dash also has a speed input that you can wire a speed sensor to.

LoL....... . gotta have my beer openers ! The unit itself is $950 , the harness is $300 and the fiberglass surround is $80 , I got everything brand new on e bay for $1000 . It has a demo mode , where U see everything moving and changing and the shift lights coming on . I am also painting the engine bay so all the wires (power) are disconnected . When Im done I'll put up some more with it in action , but it looks exactly like in the pics .

Well I have since changed to a new ECU and added a "micky mouse" dual gauge pod for a pair of PLX DM200's , http://www.plxdevices.com/products/dm200/ , since I will need something in my line of signt. I'll put up some more picks when I get the dash back.

is there any reason you're adding the dm200s? i thought your autronic had everything, going with some plx sensors???

I dunno if you know about this but these things are kind of pretty sweet and also have an available mounting kit that makes it a perfect fit into certain cluster hoods. Not to mention that these come with all the necessary sensors. http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm/SARD-STA...r-ST8100-50219
Or there is this
http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm/SARD-STA...r-ST8130-24540
and then there is the mounting hardware
http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm/SARD-STA...0-ST8100-24541

Kinda pimp...Just sayin. All the guys in the best motoring videos have these in their personal cars.

I am not using the Autronic anymore , but the new ECU will also connect and I will be eble to see what the sensors see, I am also using a couple PLX sensor modules to interface with the ECU , so getting the Dm200 was just a plus. I also added the Dm200's because at the speeds an anticipated 500+hp gives , I dont want to be caught looking down at the dash , the gauges will be in my line of sight.
