Difference between compressor wheels?

So I bought a low mileage set of N3G1 turbos recently, and I noticed that the primary turbo is different than the secondary turbo, as well as my N3A1 turbos. The primary turbo stamp where it should say N3G1 has been rubbed off, and the compressor wheel looks slightly different than all the others. Notice how the compressor wheels on the picture on top are a slightly different shape than the other picture. Since I cannot identify the turbo from the code stamped on the housing I was hoping someone might know if there is a difference.

Looks like the blades are worn down from sand, had it happen to a set of twins i bought.

Are you sure those are N3G1's? I don't see the black plastic abradeable seal around the compressor. Also, the compressor housing will be held to the cartridge with 6 bolts instead of one giant snap ring - that's the REAL giveaway that they're N3G1's.

Also, on the N3G1's, the stamp identifying them as such is computer machined instead of hand stamped. It's usually even easier to read.

If you're not sure what I'm talking about, post up a side shot of the turbos and I can tell.

The top two pics are both n3a1 turbos. N3a1 turbo have a 5 digit number starting with a 1 or a 2, and both primary and secondary have n3a1 stamped on them. If that area was rubbed off then that was someone scamming you. N3c1 turbos have the 5 digit number starting with a 3 and Only the secondary turbo says N3c1, and both have a 6 digit number. I have 2 sets of each to compare. The N3c1 compressor housing is also bored out a little bit in front of the compressor wheel, unlike the n3a1 which is all smooth.

The N3g1 secondary says N3g1 and has a 4 digit number below it, the primary turbo says HT12-3B with a 4 digit number below it. And like the above post says.

Dale, I know what you are talking about. I meant that top picture is supposed to be an N3C1. The secondary turbo does say N3C1, but the primary turbo doesn't have numbers; I can see an N and the rest is scratched off. So according to tom94, it sounds like my secondary turbo is an N3C1, but the primary turbo is a N3A1, that is worn away...

The primary difference with the N3C1's is the turbine housing. They are FAR less prone to cracking than the N3A1's, pretty much all the early turbos crack if you cross your eyes at them, the N3C1's have a higher nickel content and hold up far better.

But, the compressor wheel, turbine wheel, compressor housing, etc. is identical. Some of the later turbos I've seen have the restrictor pills built into the nipple on the compressor outlet so if you go with an aftermarket boost controller you have to drill them out.

The compressor housings are a little different, the N3c1's and N3g1's look like they are bored out a little at the inlet where the intake bolts on.

Do you think that the compressor blades being the way they are will cause a difference in performance?
