Question Diff holding pressure

Ok i was wondering if anybody has had this problem? I went for a ride and maybe boosted like 20 times that day and came back home. I went to look at my rear end and noticed my diff oil seal where leaking both side.So i was thinking of ordering new ones. Anyways i decided to take another look after three days and open the fill port. At that point i noticed air purge out like opening a sode can slowly. I quickly looked at the service manual noticed a breather valve on top of diff needed to be cleaned so i remove and open it up and was slightly dirty but nothing that could cause it not to function. So is the diff pose to hold pressure or not ? Also do you think that could have made my seal leak and stop leaking after three days ?Thanks for any help

The breather on the cover has to be plugged up. It has to vent or you will build pressure and the seals will leak - like you've witnessed. Remove the cover and clean the breather port.

See page M-34 of your manual

Already did that and even took it apart everthing looks in order. My question is it pose to hold pressure like that or not? I am going to put it back together tonight and see if it still does it. thanks Radt

no it is not supposed to hold pressure. the breather is supposed to vent. if i remember correctly there is a little plate thing with a slot on the bottom in front of the breather. If it's holding pressure and you didn't change anything or unclog the breather then it's probably not fixed, unless u somehow unclogged it without knowing it.

If you overfill the thing it may leak and stop leaking. But it must be vented well.

Did you actually see if air will pass through the breather?

i blow on it and it's pretty hard to open it up but it opens. i have another diff and pull that one off and it did the same thing. i was wondering if the baffle in the diff can become clog. but when i look though the drain port looks brand new in there and no dirt.
