If you want to sell your FD wait until the next Fast and Furious movie. If it features an FD then you'll be able to charge 50% more for it, at least 50%.

this might seem silly to you guys but ive looked on ebay and the 2nd and 3rd gen sells high on different times of the season. Now 2nd gen are selling high but later after all the 2nd gen are sold, then the 3rd gens sell high and the 2nd gens are cheap. Might seem wierd but inspect ebay and youll see what im talking about, thats how i bought my 1994 gen for $3000. but it had a engine fire!

and dont forget that if one person sells their car for cheap the will go for that. and the high priced ones will stay there. then the hight price ones will go down, so choose where you sell it.
ebay=cheap rx7
autotrader=mid range prices
www.cars.com=hight prices past the twin towers

the plus is that good clean lower mileage cars can still go for high teens, but the problem is that 95% of fd's arent clean or good anymore. lots are repainted and or have poorly repaired accident damage. etc etc

I preffer the cheap *** RX's that need paint and a rebuild. Why you ask? Its simple. I will end up converting to 99 Spec....so ive got to paint those parts, might as well do the entire car. I also would want a fresh engine with a nice big port job. After all that good stuff then guess what? It will look better, run better and be much much cheaper than your $20-25k low mile stock original.

I can understand people that would die for a very low mileage, completly stock and original FD. I would love nothing more than to have one. But the fact still remains, the cars are now 10-12 years old. And 85% of people that love these cars, such as myself, have to get loans for these cars. Well, news flash people. They only book for 12ish in mint condition. And 99.9% of banks will not give you a $20-25k loan for a 10-12 year old car that only books for $12k.

Anyhow, point being. We all love are cars very much, and we ALL think they are worth a certain amount. But reality must kick in for everyone, and realize that these cars are not brand new anymore.

And whoever said we need to hope another FD is in the next "Fast and Furious" was completly right........seen Supra prices lately? They are still getting 20-40k for a good one....my god...

That's funny. But true especially if the buyer knows SleepR1's background with the wheels.

The depreciation is due to age as well as a softening demand for used cars. New cars have warranty and low financing. Most ppl buy used cars that are 3-5 yrs old.

I bought my 94 base for $17k 5 yrs ago w/ 72k mi from a Mazda dealer. For those wanting to sell $20k, you better have less than 50k mi. Cars do depreciate and RX7 aren't considered "collectors" yet (maybe another 10 yrs).

I think $12k is average price for a good running FD. Most FD are pretty beat up by now though so some costs less.

it seems like the spectrum is widening,,

you can get cars for 8-11k and there are cars taht wont sell for under 20k, and some even get over 25k if they are mint (a 95 had 41k but still got like 25,000.)

or heavily modded, and are clean

high mileage tends to kill the price even if the car is really modded, anything above 50k is a bit jump down , ad another biggg jump down if the car has over 100k ion the clock

These $20k plus transactions are very rare - I think a statistican would refer to them as outliers. There are a lot of people (on this board in particular) that still think that $20-$25k is a normal range for FD, probably because you can find a lot of cars for sale in this range. However, if you follow the market (and I did for a year before buying mine) you will see that they stay on Autotrader etc. forever. Locally, for example, I saw a 55k miles R2 drop from an asking of $22k to $16k before eventually selling (after a year on the market).

People asking more than about $18k are mostly dreaming. Perhaps someone with deep pockets and who is not too knowledgeable about the market will come along and pay above market, buy it is not something to rely on.
