its the same in europe, before I got mine nearly 2 years ago you couldn't get an import for less than £12K but now even the models with re-wide bodys and lots of carbon with big singles for over 10-11K english. and with the influx from japan in UK the builders are realy busy and its almost impossible to get any big engine work done.

A car is worth what ever you can get for it.

I guess your right but it was nice for a while there to have a rare cult car that if looked after would still be worth its money a few years down the line.

Prices have been dropping and i honestly think its about time. I love the FD and all but people need to realize that these are 10-12 year old cars. That and the fact that most people have no clue how to maintain one, so 80% of the world thinks they are completly unreliable cars.
The only thing keeping the prices where they are is becuase FD's are somewhat rare, expecially since every other day someone is totaling one.

Have you seen a lot of people getting $20K+ for their cars? The last two 20B cars I saw for sale both went for under $30K.

Let's face it, most FDs are not worth 20k.

I love my car and I've got 28k in the car (buying the car + mods) and it is nicely tuned and needs nothing besides a set of rims/tires.... You could give this car to your grandma to drive around, and besides the loud exhaust, it drives very smoothly and nicely. If I sold it, I'd probably be happy getting 20-22k. And maybe I wouldn't even get THAT! Sad, I know... but you have to face the facts.

You mean R2, don't you?

I'm mystified at all these people who think their car is worth $20-$25k. Where do these prices come from? Did FDs sell in this range in the recent past?

$18k is about the absolute upper limit for any FD sold by a private party and it would need to have very low miles (30k or less) to even reach this.
I paid a little over that for my '94 w/ 23K, bone stock, and near mint . The FDs that command top dollar are stock or near stock, pristine, low mileage, manual cars.

i too am dissapointed at the resale value our cars are going for. i understand for those cars that are selling for the $10-$12k (or below) range that are needing a little work or are high mileage, are justifiable. but a low mileage one or a very well maintained one going for less than $15k is just not right.

say for example my car, a 93 r1, 43k~ miles, perfect (near perfect) working order. i originally bought it for $14.5k, great deal but needed/had a lot of work done recently, running virtually brand new. only defects are cosmetics with the paint and wheels. but the expected sale price would be in the ~$15k range. and i sure wouldnt sell it at that price.

if i tried to sell my car for $19-20k (the price i think it is worth to me), i would get flamed by a lot of people about how its too high of a price, or its not even a single turbo, or that maintenance/upgrades/mods do not increase its value. but i think the exact opposite in everyone one of these reasons. i know you won't get back 100% of your money back on stuff you put on your car after purchase, but i certainly do think it helps its value.

i have entertained a couple of people who offered to buy my car out of no where in the $19k-20k range. and even at this price i was hesistant, and in the end wouldn't/couldnt go through with it.

my thoughts,
chris

yea, i wouldn't even try to sell my car here due to all the lowballers. I'd put it up on autotrader. My friend got 22k for his mint condition modded 94 FD when he put it up on autotrader whereas here, he got nothing but lowball offers.

I say let the prices come down more. That way I can buy another one as my commuter car and the another for track only and the another one for long road trips and then....

Interesting. FDs sell for much more in Europe usually. Only RHD models have lower value, but on overage a good condition FD would go over $20k overhere. Not to mention if it has reliability and power mods

Heck, I own 50% of FDs in Slovenia, hahahaha

That's the same in italy Cruiser
Here a good Fd is still over 17/18 K euro.
I have seen some of them with 100K Kms with a selling price of 19K.
Other for 15/16K but really in bad conditions.
The real problem are the buyers, you won't get much people interested in it, too much taxes....

I think part of the problem is those who can sell our FDs for higher prices because they are in good shape won't. I don't plan to part with my FD. and neither do most of the other forum members.

I'm not parting with mine...I told my family already that when I die, they must strap me in the drivers seat and roll me and my FD off into a deep part of the ocean

If the prices drop to a very low point in price, shouldnt the price increase like old muscle cars?

I dont know **** about inflation and stuff.

My car before the FD was a '70 Chevelle SS. It was great i bought it for 7, fixed it up paying about 2 and sold it for 17... im curious as to when the FD prices will start to rise. It is a rare car, but granted it is also a early 90's car, and to some people (typicaly the general public, not car buffs like us) thats a big turn-off. But i agree with mycarisolderthanme just enjoy your car, dont be paranoid about selling it untill the time comes. NO car for the most part sells for what it deserves. Just life.
