Did Blitz change their SMIC design?

So after doing some searching, I've decided to go with a Blitz SMIC, just because it's supposed to be a direct drop-in without any modifications.

Well, I checked out Horsepowerfreaks and the Blitz SMIC they're selling requires a battery relocation (see the Note after the description):

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/pric..._-_Stock_Mount

Is this a new Blitz SMIC? Or is the note about the battery relocation an error?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I wouldn't bother getting that SMIC even if it didn't require a battery relocation. I think that's a typo anyway.

But for what you're paying, it's definitely not worth it. Especially at $900US. You might as well spend a few more bucks, and get a Greddy FMIC, or even a Greddy SMIC (~500-600 in buy/sell) which is much beefier than the Blitz SMIC.

The Blitz SMIC was discontinued years ago - and did not require a battery or airbox relocation , and worked with the stock duct. This looks like the original one. I wonder if they have rereleased it?

The Blitz is a nice improvement over stock, and is an easy install. The early Blitz SMIC's were polished. The later ones were not polished, but were the same design. No need to move the battery.

For the price you should check out the SR Motorsport SMIC or an ARC SMIC. No need re-locate or go to smaller battery, and you can keep your stock airbox.

THE SR has a 3.5-inch core and supposedly double the surface area.

Thanks for the replies.

Isn't there a fitment issue with with the SR SMIC? I'm planning on keeping the stock airbox and ducts (will probably get a CBI kit). I just haven't been able to find enough feedback about the SR SMIC in regards to installation issues.

Great thread--I'm also planning on installing the Blitz SMIC and had the same fitment questions.

In regards to the price, I've not found any sub-$1,000 SMICs besides this one, which, I think, makes it the best deal. Besides it not being that "beefy," are there any other issues with it? I'm really looking to keep my power levels just slightly higher than stock, because at this point, I'm more concerned with reliability.

Also you may try the for sale section here. You just have to be patient. average price about $650.

A good one to consider also is the PFS SMIC.

There is an as new SR Motorsports SMIC for sale in the classifieds at the moment for $600.

I installed one last weekend. It works with the stock duct (though the duct needs to be trimmed a little for a perfect seal). I am also not sure how well this IC would work with a larger aftermarket radiator - I have practically zero clearance with my stock one.

I have not done any real testing with it yet but from its specs it should perform similarly to the Blitz or Greddy SMICs.

If the SR one was a had a lil bit more aesthetics to it, i would get it. I know where to get a GReddy SMIC for about $600 so ill just save my money for that.

The SRM IC has pretty much no aesthetics - it looks just like a well-built stock piece. I'm actually going to paint the end tanks flat black on mine for an even more stock look. I hope not to have to pull it out for my next emissions test.

Finally, some installation info on the SR SMIC. I guess I'll have to find a Blitz as I already have a Fluidyne radiator.

Actually, aftermarket ICs are perfectly smog legal if you retain the stock turbos. I can post the link to the smog rulebook if you want to read it.

That's why the BNRs are a nice hidden upgrade...

The problem is that I am not sure that your average smog tech knows this (though, from what I have read, CARB referees are now aware of it). Previously, almost everybody assumed that they were not legal without a CARB EO number (the Greddy SMIC used to have one of those).

I carry a printout of the rules to the smog station....
