Diagnose sound coming from TT

I went to test drive a FD I had been looking at. It was very nice, the only concern I had was a loud sound it was making when I accelerated and the turbos kicked in. It sounded like air from an air compressor hose. Is this normal? Is this a vacuum leak? If so, will this be difficult to fix? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a boost leak. Usually not "too" hard to fix but it can be a pain to locate.

Boost leak! Check the hoses to and from the turbos, and you may need to check the y-pipe. That's where a lot of boost leaking comes from, sounds like a whooooshing sound huh? Yeah that's a boost leak. The coupler on the top of the y-pipe is know for leaking, and all other PLASTIC tubing (which splits and leaks a lot under pressure). The coupler and other piping may look fine when you look at it, but once the car goes under boost or there is pressure there you will see that it splits or whatever. Take the rubber coupler off and stretch it slightly, if there are slits or anything else, then you need to replace it as it leaks out tons of boost under pressure. Not too hard to change, just gotta take out the y-pipe to get it off, then buy a new one. I suggest buying a efini y-pipe upgrade as it is just a better unit.

Also check the hose that goes from the crossover tube to the bottom of the intercooler. That one is known to split also.

Well, I haven't bought the car yet. Just making sure it's not a major issue before I make any commitment. Where would I get an efini y-pipe upgrade?

You can get them at just about any aftermarket RX-7 parts dealers.
