Red face Depo Oil Temp Gauge

Hey Guys,

I picked up a depo oil temp gauge on the weekend. I was thinking about buying a t-fitting and having it run off the same location as the oil pressure sender. Would this work?

I was also thinking of just getting a sandwich plate that will fit under the oil filter and run the oil temp off of that. Just cant find a plate that works.

What have you guys done previously?

I have my oil temp sender in the oil pan drain plug. There is no easier install than this. You can buy one here for about $20

Nice! The depo gauge comes with a probe style sensor. Does this replace that then?

Yes. Call egauges if you have specific questions. I always found them to be helpful in the past.

placement of the sender depends on what you want to read. If you want to know the oil temp in the pan, that's a good place. If you want to know the oil temp going to the engine after it's been cooled, here's an easy option. It replaces the stock oil cooler return line banjo at the oil filter pedestal.

CORKSPORT Rotary Banjo Bolt

The temp of the oil going into the engine seems to make the most sense to me....

i use a sandwich plate. it goes in between the oil filter and the pedestal. it has holes on it already for the sensors, comes in different colors and runs ~20$

For most of us, I think we want to know the oil temp (and coolant temp) at its hottest temperature.

I would buy a drain plug that's tapped for your 1/8npt fitting, easiest method

The gauge itself looks pretty good for the price... havent heard anything bad about them

Would this sandwich plate work?

Anywhere really....... bwr (blackworks racing) is the brand i use. Ive bought 3 already and have had no problems with them on various cars. Ebay is where i buy them from. Just verify in the listing that youre getting an authentic part. There are a lot of generic ones on there.

Do not buy a glowshift brand sandwich plate.

So do you want the oil temp sensor at the hottest or coldest location?

Hottest isn't at the bottom of the oil pan, it's where the oil leaves the block to the oil cooler(s).

The oil leaves the block, and goes into the oil pan (where it is the hottest). From there it is pumped to the oil cooler(s). A sender in the oil pan will give the hottest readings.

yes, oil is pumped out of the oil pan and returns to the engine at the oil filter pedestal after running thru the coolers. but is the oil temp really so different from the oil pan to the banjo bolt exiting the motor? i cant imagine it being a huge difference, but then again it wouldn't surprise me either.
