I just bought a Denso fuel pump from rx7.com. I was trying to figure out whether or not to get a Denso or Walbro 255 for the longest time, but based on the many threads it seems to be an even 50/50 split. I ended up purchasing the Denso cuz a friend of mine recommended it to me. He just warned me of buying it from ebay and to find a reputable seller. Anyways, I just received my fp today and I was a little curious to see if it was legit or not. When the pump arrived I noticed that it where it is supposed to say 195130 1270 the 195130 part was burned off and I don't know why they would do that. The reason I purchased from rx7.com was because I saw a couple of people post the link to it in the many fuel pump threads before. I'm not saying this is a fake and I doubt it is, I would just like the peace of mind. I don't know if you guys have purchased products from the site, or simply know it by reputation. But I would like to hear yall opinion on the fp and the site.
Thanks for the help
Rx7.com is a reputable supplier. I got my downpipe from them. When I talked to them, they were very helpful and knowledgeable. Been around a long time.
That does appear to be a legit pump. It is odd that number is etched or burned off. The "D" on there is critical, most imitations miss that. Also the body and terminals match the materials Denso uses. Although "copy cats" have got better, I'm pretty confident that's a Denso unit.
+3 on calling them to ask about it. Send them pictures too - they may not be aware of this either. It is odd that the numbers were removed; it may be a one-off production cosmetic defect, or perhaps they changed suppliers and might be getting in some fakes now. Based on the box it came in, it looks like they packed it in their own box prior to shipping it to you. That tells me that they at least give the part a quick visual check of what they receive from their suppliers before shipping to the end user. Either way, that shop has been around a long time and has a great reputation they would want to uphold, so I suspect they will make it right.
As an FYI data point, last time I purchased one of these Denso pumps from Rockauto some 4 years ago for my FC, it came in two boxes - an unopened Denso marked box inside a larger Rockauto box. That tells me that Rockauto just drop-ships whatever their suppliers provide them without any inspection upon receiving. Luckily my pump turned out to be a legit Denso pump, with all the correct markings on it, in the unopened Denso logo box.
I can count on 1 hand how many shops I consider reputable and rx7.com is near the top of that list. They melt the serial number to protect sourcing the denso pump they use. It makes both a great stock replacement and upgrade for moderately modified cars.
Yes.... please report back on the reason behind it
So i just called them right now, and the person that answered ensured me that it was the correct part. He said its something they have been doing recently, and he wasn't really sure why. He called it a "top secret" code or something along those lines Anyways he ensured me that everything is fine and there isn't really anything to worry about. So I guess everything is good but I still find it pretty odd. You can definitely tell they are a reputable site once you call them. Very knowledgeable, fast shipping, and it was overall a great experience. Will definitely purchase from them again if needed

I've been buying from Ari for over ten years, and can echo all of the positivity here. Interesting to hear the rationale as to why they redact the part number though.
Manufacturers sometimes decide to etch or remove certain information on product that could be proprietary in any way... even something as simple as a few digits that could have meaning. Could be related to tooling, drawings etc... who knows 🤷♂️
