Decided to make my own oil filler neck...
OK so my strut tower brace sits directly over the stock oil filler cap, making it almost impossible to get the cap off unless you first remove the strut bar. I finally decided to make my own aluminum filler neck, with the help of Derrick at Advanced Race Technology, and here's the design I went with.
Unlike the stock filler neck, and the custom/aftermarket ones I've seen, I decided to extend mine further forward, leaving more room for the oil filler cap.
I made the tubing with some left over aluminum pipe and made a ghetto-flange from scrap 1/8" aluminum. For now, I have hacked the threaded oil cap socket off of the stock filler neck, modified it, and attached it to my custom filler neck using a bit of hose and some clamps.
Does anyone know where I can get an aluminum threaded oil cap socket to replace the plastic one I'm currently using? I just need to find the socket in aluminum so I can weld it on to the filler neck I made....
Anyway, here are the photos...
Making a flange...

Flange welded...starting the second weld...

Welding...

Welded...

Test fitting...

Plastic (cut off of the stock neck) oil cap socket attached...

Complete!

Another angle...

I also ended up adding a barbed nipple to the end for connecting that one vac hose off the UIM...I forgot to take a picture though...
So anyway, let me know if anyone knows where to get the aluminum threaded oil cap sockets! I need one so I can replace the plastic one that I'm currently using...
Oh, and if anyone is interested, we've been thinking about having a batch of these made...better quality of course - this one was just a quick fab for my own use.
And once again, special thanks to A.R.T. for the help (as always). Even though they were maddd busy (See pic), Derrick still helped me out with the welding on this project.

Cheers!

Nice work! Nothing's more annoying than having to remove the strut bar every time you want to add oil.
The baffled Re-Speed unit sits in the stock location right under the strut bar.

What strut bar do you have?
I dont have to remove my bar to add oil. The strut bar is in the way i agree but maybe a 1/2 inch of blockage.
Nothing a long skinny funnel couldnt do.
Btw, what shop is that? Some nice cars over there.

haha well yes to answer your questions/comments:
i have the greddy front strut bar.
yes the re-speed one does stick out SLIGHTLY farther, but still not enough to clear my strut bar.
the shop is A.R.T. in sarasota, fl. they work on a lot of nice cars in there...check out their website, www.advancedracetechnology.com

That looks really nice. I have the same problem due to my xcessive lim.. Right now I just deal with it but I may do something like this in the future just to avoid the annoyance.
