Is it dead???

Hey all,
I'm not at all mechanically inclined... and when it comes to my rotary.. well.. i've only had the car for about a month.... So I hope you can bare with me on my lack of vocabulary.... I have a slight problem...

My FD when i bought it was only boosting 5 PSI... I noticed there was a crack in one of the couplers (the blue plastic connecting the intercooler to the motor), and I had it replaced. Everything was put on by a mechanic, and appeared to be ok. Once it was put on, and I drove it, I was boosting 15 PSI... I did notice hesitation around 5 or 6 RPM's... a friend of mine said he felt like i was getting too much fuel... and suggested getting a fuel defender... on my way home... i tried opening it up a little.. and in third gear, at about 5 RPM's... she started slowly dying down... to a point where i had to pull over since she cut off and died. At first she didnt want to start... temperature gauges all seemed normal.. water temp was at 160, and nothing appeared to be wrong with the car other than the hesitation..... the air/fuel gauge showed the car as running rich.... Finally after waiting 15 minutes or so.. she started... and got me home.... but feels nothing like it did before the whole incident... now she won't start at all... you turn the key and you hear it trying to start... but it just won't turn over.... I had someone tell me recently the the compression on the engine was fine... so in all honesty I don't have any idea as to whats going on.... Anybody have any similar experience?

15psi? Does your car have the stock ECU? If your AFR gauge isn't wideband, then it's pretty much useless, so I wouldn't trust it. 15psi on a stock ECU is almost a surefire way to pop your motor from running to lean.

Make sure the hose is still connected to the MAP sensor. It is a black sensor on a bracket on the firewall, it is near the throttle body, and the hose attaches to the bottom. A search would turn up pictures to help you locate it. You won't need a mechanic -- you can look to see if the hose is disconnected itself (usually, the hose comes off the sensor and not the other end).

If that isn't it, I think you blew the motor. A compression test is the next step.

1. If you had a mechanic changed the IC couplers...sell the 7 now. No offend.
2. If your car was boosting 15 psi, list your mod so we could help troubleshoot.
3. Get a new friend.

Let's see in order to run 15 psi safely, car must have an afermarket ECU, aftermarket intercooler, fuel pump, larger injectors, and a good tune. Also 15 psi is hard for stock twin...

1. Your AFR gauge is probably a toy, unless there's a wideband o2 sensor setup.

2. I remember this car. I commented a while back on the fact that he had gone through the trouble and expense to install that Microtech and not any of the other mods to run more than 12 psi.

3. That car has the stock fuel system, which runs out at 13-14 psi. If you were boosting 15 psi....well.

Since you know nothing about these cars, I suggest taking the car to Pettit Racing. They are one of the best and well known rx7 shops in the country and are in your neck of the woods.
