Hey does anyone have a write up on how to remove the following pieces.

Radio Surround
Gauge cluster Surround
Dash Top Cover

I have searched and haven't really found any good info.

I would like to do this right without breaking or tearing tabs or screws.

Shifter surround is no biggie but the other stuff doesnt seem to want to come out..

 

+1 on the radio shroud, I have a din pocket that I'm not able to install due to poor CD player wiring. I need to remove the shroud so I can clean up all the messy wire.

 

I did this a million times before.

First remove all the screws below the cluster surround along with the 3 screws in the lower steering colum cover. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.

The tricky part is to pull the clock surround towards you without changing directions. Unfortunately there is no trick to make this easy so just pull it hard until it pops out. It will resist immensly but don't give up.

The dash top cover and the cluster surround are connected with 3 or 4 screws so these two are technically one piece. After you removed the cluster surround you can disassemble the dash cover.

The radio surround is connected via screws with the dash. The screws are located beneath the clock surround/shifter surround hence you can't remove it as long as the clock surround and the shifter surround are still in place.

I hate removing the dash cluster
Its a total PITA

To install a radio you have to start with the dash surround which is so cumbersome.
I'm not looking forward to doing this when i swap mine out

 

iirc, I followed the steps in the FSM. Only did it once though.

 

The main problem I see with the Dash Cluster is too many people push it in too far when installing. For lack of a better description, it causes the clamps/pins/whatever you call them to push past the slot they should be in and make it impossible to remove without breaking the hood.

If your Hood is seated correctly, it should come out with very minimal effort.
