Has anyone ever tried putting the lid/cover back on the compartment thing on the driver's side, coz somehow mine came off and i was there for about 40mins easy trying to put the damn thing back on. Had to take the plastic thing around the door hande off, coz u got to push this little piece of round metal tube into the lid and there is pretty much only the one way to do it but maybe im wrong maybe thats why its came off again.

Has anyone ever had any experience with this maybe an easy way to get the thing back on.

i think i should call it the driver's side door storage bin instead of the driver's side compartment.

 

I had to take mine apart (door skin and all) in order to repair it. But maybe you're lucky and the RHD version isnt' as stupidly expensive.

For the LHD pocket we have to pay $160 or more.

if you're talking about the little bin on the doors armrest, it's probably broken...they always break, like Mustang ashtrays and Mopars, those things break like nothing

i dont think its broken though, does'nt look like anything has snapped off or anything, seems like its just out of place or something.

ill check it out properly in the next few days anyway , see how i go.

its nothing major but its just something i dont wanna leave like that coz everytime i open the lid its comes off completely and its annoying.

i do use the storage bin quite often, drop my phone and house keys in there usually and its quite handy i guess, coz everytime i put the phone under the cd player compartment and i give it a little hit everything just comes flying out of there.

 

i dont think there's much difference in the RHD and LHD ones.

$160 !!! what a rip off , hope i dont need to spend anything on it.

 

In a pinch, you could glue the lid shut. I had mine that way for a while until I repaired it.

 

How'd you repair it? I don't want to buy another one, just fix the one I have.

 

yeah mine was busted too. I repaired mine as well. I just made two pins for the underside of the lid itself, then drilled a small hole in the side of the bin that did not origially have one and installed the lid. and yeah, those things are AT least $160. I was quoted 260 at my local mazda dealer, then fixed it myself (above) and then saw these for 160 the other day on here...

 

Glue the thing down and don't use I. I went through 2 new ones before I got tired of it. RX-7s have one of the poorest quality interiors I have seen. The plastics just break too easily.

 

just take the door panel off and seal it shut. don't use it . these parts suck. I only use it for decoration so the car looks complete and stock.

Thats alright man, everybody else has seem to have just glued theirs shut.

 

I fixed mine by inserting a new hinge pin and then snapped the clip off that holds it down. Gravity keeps it shut, that clip just stresses out the hinge and isnt neded.

 

A vote to fix it. There are a number of ways to repair them, none take alot of imagination. I reinforced mine at the hinge and under the lid a few years ago with a five dollar fiberglass kit from O'Rielly's. It's now solid as a rock and looks factory.

Repair of mine:

I melted a plastic trim fastener using a soldering iron to bond it to the base piece. Then I drilled a hole through it and stuck a screw through made the screw go through the lid. Took about 5 minutes, cost me $0.
