Daily driving rpms?
Daily driving rpms?
For those who use their fd's as daily drivers, at what rpms do you usually shift at? I find that if i shift at around 3500, i have to use the clutch just a little less and the drive is that much smoother. Today, my dad found some oil in the upper stock inter cooler hose while I was replacing things on the car here and there and he insists that its because i drive it at high rpms. I hardly ever mess around with my car on the streets or public areas unless im in wide open spaces away from other people and other cars. and those chances very rarely come up as it is. So i know its safe to say i dont beet on the car like he thinks i do. My question's are, are my shifting points for daily driving to high? what are your guy's shifting points for daily driving? and why might there be oil in my upper inter cooler hose that leads to the intake elbow?

Oil in your intercooler pipe is normal to an extent. Actually oil leaks more from the turbos when you aren't boosting and babying it. You should exercise the engine once in a while as long as everything is operating as it should (wg, etc)
I usually shift around 3500-4000 depending on conditions. I always run it to redline on the highway at least once per drive. Alternatively I rev to 5k just outside my residential area.
lol thanks guys. my pops is absolutely hell bent about my fd not being a sports car at all. So i tell him " yeah your probably right, my family car just came with stock twin turbo's, a rear strut bar, and only two seats for convenience reasons". But that doesn't seem to get through to him. lol
I'll shift at about 4500-5000 typically on my drive to and from work (not bringing her above 3,000 before it's warmed up). But that is only to save on fuel.. I also make sure to get on it a couple times per drive as well, both because it's fun and redlining under full boost helps blow out any carbon you build by "taking it easy" on the engine.
If, for some reason (i.e. slow person in front of me, and oncoming traffic w/e it's safe to pass) I don't get on it during a trip than I'm sure to let her have it next time.
Seriously, ragging the car out and bouncing off redline is a good thing in a rotary (as I understand it). Not sure if maintaining that without any boost pressure is good or not though..
*edit*
Oh yeah, NOT getting on it can actually be detrimental to your engine. The carbon buildup will get to the point that it ***** up the springs in your apex seals, severely hampering their ability to maintain contact with the housing walls (correct me if I am wrong, it has been over a year since I got in the weeds on this potential problem).
Overly babying this car = breaking your car
