Daily driving rpms?
i know someone who's driving an FC and shifts at about 3000rpm for economical reasons ie save fuel etc. a couple of other friends shifts at about 3000rpm in their 180sx/s13 as well.
i would have thought that shifting at about 3000-4000rpm is kinda ideal for practical reasons. just because the engine can stand up to 7000, 8000rpm doesn't mean that you'll always have to shift at that point now, right?

i have been shifting around 3200 around town and that brings the next gear a lil above 2k where the engine isnt lugging, shifts are seamless, and gas is conserved
i dont hesistate to redline at least one per drive though if the car fully warms up

I cruise at around 3k rpm and typically shift at 5k when I'm not romping on it. You'll rarely find me below 3k rpm.......the car sees redline at pretty much every highway onramp
That's odd, I usually never go below 6.5k.. Oh wait thats the Formula Mazda race car...
I guess I am a little to conservative in my FD, because I usualy stay around 2.5k to try and not seem like a terrible teenage ricer, but I guess I will just have to let her eat a little bit more from now on...

Wow, I guess I'm the only one that shifts at about 2.3k-2.5k all day everyday. 5k is 'super' high for me, haha. I shift my FC at like 1.8k and cruise the streets in 6th gear at 1k rpm
Just because you shift at 8 grand doesn't mean your foot is to the floor. I cruise around and shift around 5-7k, because I never know when someone wants to play
I'm non-sequential too, so I have to keep revs up if I want to get a proper romp on. Just make sure your motor is warm before you do that. I usually keep revs below 5k til the motor is warm.
As has been said, do your motor a favor and wring it out once in a while, after you're sure everything is working properly. What's the point of having a rotary if you're not gonna rev the **** out of it

What blck91 and Adam are referring to is that carbon builds up on the rotor housings; too much carbon can certainly mean premature failure. By design, carbon build up is removed when the rotor spins at high RPMs. As you can see even mazda wants YOU to redline this bitch! Once in a while

This isn’t a rotary myth either. There’s actually a mazda technician training video that explains all of this stuff. Though I haven’t seen it in a while I’m sure it’s out in the net somewhere so search for it.

Oh yeah, NOT getting on it can actually be detrimental to your engine. The carbon buildup will get to the point that it ***** up the springs in your apex seals, severely hampering their ability to maintain contact with the housing walls (correct me if I am wrong, it has been over a year since I got in the weeds on this potential problem).

Hehe, I figured as much... just kinda bored and felt like messing about, though I could (should) go downstairs and adjust the tightness of the bolt on my windshield wipers, and reinstall my stock IC air duct...

I do not have a problem accelerating hard when traffic permits. I go 80-100% throttle up to the higher rpms in second and third whenever I can and shift appropriately without exceeding speed limits too much.

dont be afraid to drive the car like its meant to be driven. Just be careful of other people and cops. If you want to conserve gas, buy a different car. Get that secondary turbo working, then take your father for a real drive. There is no denying the Rx7 as a true sports car.
i shift at 3.5-4k rpms for DD just to save on gas because once i hit 4.5k my 1600cc secondary's kick and that's a lot of gas

i normally cruise at 3k, when i had the FD running i would make it a must to at least redline it once during the week it sees the road. dont baby the car too much or the carbon build up will give you unnecessary grief! haul *** in it now and then, thats what the car is made for.

I dont want to start a epic discussion soley from this post but i have to ask.
Wouldnt it be just as worse to redline the car often? I mean i know it will clear up carbon but lets say guys with older engines, maybe 80k on their original, i would assume the internals go through more stress when you are at higher rpm's than guys who have lower miles on their engines.
I do redline my car at lease once every drive now. Before when i dont use my car or when i cant, i just let it idle in the driveway, now i know not to do that. Its either drive it or dont even start it (unless its been a REALLY long time).
