Daily Drivers Wanted

Greetings.

I'd like to start a thread for those that drive thier FD3s to work, on the weekends, through rain, snow or shine.

I'd like for you to share your experiences and knowledge of the pros and cons of Daily Driving your FD3s.

For example, what are the things you do with the FD3 that differ from daily driving non-fd3 automobiles? What have you done to your FD3 to prepare it for snow conditions?

Regards.

if you have an FD, how could you not drive it everyday? I love my car so much that I find an excuse to drive it at least once a day, even if I don't have anyplace to go.

My FD is a daily driver, but I don't drive it everyday.

I try not to drive it in the snow.

i don't really have to worry about the snow down here is South Cackylacky. However, it sucks *** when it's over 100 degrees here with 90% humidity.

daily hard core city traffic driver here, about 250 miles per week. the fd drinks lots of gas and poor ventilation when its hot, but it provides tons of fun, even without full boost

Same here. It is my daily driving car, but when I can find ways around not driving it every day, I do. My car also sits when it snows, as all other obligations do not have priority over the safety of my car.

Ditto, and I like the way you put that last comment. My RX is an "almost" daily driver, as I have recently decided that she will no longer be allowed to play in the rain. A guy with a stock RX told me to be careful on wet pavement and when I spun the tires twice in one night I realized he was right. All that power in a light, rear-wheel drive vehicle can be a bit to handle, and what's the point of taking it easy when you're in an RX? Plus, you avoid all those idiots that seem to forget how to drive when it rains.

I haven't been through a winter yet, but I've got a custom car cover on order and I'll probably be getting the Maxima tuned up soon. My advice? If you can afford another car, even a crappy one, get it, and you'll better your chances for a long and happy relationship with your RX.

My fd is a daily driver. I drive it everywhere i go cause i dont have another car. Anyway, i love driving my car. The only downslide to driving an fd everyday is that its a gas guzzler.

Thumbs up

My car is daily driven and I drive it hard every time I take it out. It's a great way to prevent carbon build up and my car is extremely reliable. I never drive it when it snows. I previously owned an 89 RX-7 and it was all over the place. I don't know how well my FD will handle the snow. I have owned my car for 3 years and it's a blast driving. I just love it and I never get bored with it.

My 7 is a daily driver too. I'm looking for a beater right now cuz winter is coming and I don't really like driving the car in the rain. Soooo easy to spin the tires. Also gas bank too.

Another daily driver here. I put on between 300-500 miles per week. (thats a lot!) getting a commuter car, though, to cut back on the miles. no snow driving (CJ7 for that).
does great, no problems at all.

Winter driving the FD3

The biggest problem driving a 7 in the snow is the tires. If your running sticky summer tires forget it. On previous rear wheel drive performance cars that I've had I could get them stuck on flat ground with the summer performance tires. With a good set of winter/snow tires then I don't see why the FD3 wouldn't get around any worse than any other rear wheel drive performance car. I've driven two such cars throughtout an Alaskan winter and had no real problems, just have to be patient as you pull away from a stop. But now that I have a truck as a daily driver the 7 just got put away for the winter, even took all insurance but comp. off so I wouldn't be tempted to take it out for a spin when the roads are basically dry.

I have a FD as a daily driver ... however if ice comes again count me out. I want no piece of that action. I drove on it one or two times and then did a slight spin at slow speeds coming down a hill ... got just a little to confident and the back end came around and I hit the curb messing up my alignment. Luck for me that was it ... I said enough!
