CYM # question

Okay, I've always been curious about this subject, and I've searched it on this forum. I've yet to been able to find an answer.

So here's my situation. I know that there are only 350 CYM's that ever made it to the U.S. for the 93 model year. So how do I know which number CYM I own? Wether it be like #240, #349, #22? Anybody have an answer for this one? Thanks

I don't think CYM's were all constructed sequentially, so you won't be able to tell by the VIN...

There's gotta be a way to tell which one they were. Cause if that's the case, then I guess I have #1 that rolled off the assembly line LOL, J/K. I'm going to see if Mazda would be willing to help us out.

the 350 cyms were NOT built sequentially as an entire group..
they were however built in multiple groups.. as to how many per group has yet to be determined...

I did some research on this as well. My cousin and I both owned CYMs (I still do, he sold to pay for law school). Our Vin's were more then 350 digits apart. I contacted Mazda, they were not constructed in sequence and there is no way to tell. I have unfortunately seen several pictures of different totaled CYMs, so should you ever decide to sell you can honestly say 1 of less then 350 still in existence.

consider this.. the first 100 fds built were nonproduction... not for street use

Very interesting. But wouldn't the VIN identify the date the car rolled off the assembly line? That could be a way to identify which number they would be?

Yeah that might be true, but to get all the information from each CYM FD and to figure out which came first in sequence would be almost impossible.

Unless its the first or last one off the line, chances are the # it was produced wont make a bit of difference when it comes to collector value.

the number still applies.. lower vin still equates to earlier build..

Okay, so I did a single car thing report, and here's my info.

12/23/1992 NICB Vehicle manufactured and shipped to original dealer

That seems like a very late date, now I'm not sure if that's the official date it rolled of the assembly line, or if that's the date it arrived at it's first dealership.

I also found out that my car started out in Indianapolis, then moved to Wisconsin and then moved to PFSupercars in Maryland. Then I bought it 10/04/2005 , It's kinda cool knowing a little bit of info about my car.

It really doesn't matter as to when it was built, the CYM is only a color option, not an equipment option, and as such shouldn't change the value of the car much more than a few hundred dollars. Unless somebody just has to have an original yellow.
