The CYM is PAINTED!
Well most of it is. They painted the body, doors and fenders. Next week they will get to the 2 hoods (1 vented, 1 stock), bumper covers, mirrors, mirror bases, fender vents, R1 strut brace and mudflaps.

I think it turned out awesome. If you haven't ever seen a good CYM paint job in person your missing out. Pics don't do the color justice, it has a slight amount of pearl in it that you can see when your close to it, say maybe 20 ft or less.
Now I just have to put it back together without scratching it up to much

Actually I showed the bodyguy pics of your car, he said "it was a goner". You hit the pole basically right at the side of the firewall.
Man, it just keeps getting better and better, Jeff! Boy is it gonna be awesome once the doors, hood, fender, etc. get on there and it starts looking like a car again!
I totally agree - every RX-7 enthusiast should see CYM in person at some point. The paint just GLOWS - the mica flakes in the paint really make it amazing.

Thanks guys.
Here is a little paint info since some people PM me for it. I am not a painter, I'm just explaining this as I have learned it from the painter.
CYM is listed as a 3 stage paint but this car was painted with 2 stage. As it turns out the paint code does not tell the painter exactly what color to paint it the car. The code gives him a color but it also offers "alternative" colors since there is a tolerance to how the paint is mixed and dries in the factory.
The painter had a slightly damaged WHITE (important since yellow doesn't cover well) hood off a 2003 Chevy van that he did a "spray out" on for me. He painted it in thirds, in the middle he used 3 stage, yellow base with a pearl topcoat. Since the color changes with the amount of pearl he used he divided up the center section into 6 parts and progressively added a coat of pearl. This way I could see clearly what 1-6 coats of peal looked like. Well I'm REALLY glad he showed me. 1 coat of pearl looked the best, 2 coats looked OK, 3+ coats made the car look gold in the sun. 1 coat of pearl was pretty much impossible he said, there was no way he could do 1 coat of pearl evenly on all the parts of the car, 2 coats was minimum but he really wanted 3 coats.
He also sprayed out two different yellow colors in 2 stage (pearl in the base color), one was the paint code paint and the other was a factory variation listed under the paint code.
I had two new factory CYM mirrors and the paint behind the windshield area of the car to reference as the original color. The paint behind the windshield hadn't been exposed to sun so it should be pretty much the color the car left the factory wearing.
I thought this was all very cool of the painter since I figure I could just say "use the factory color", instead he showed me all the variation that you could get using that statement.
Then when he actually painted the body he used a white base with a yellow tint, 2 coats of that, then 4 coats of yellow and 3 coats of clear.
He isn't finished painting all the parts yet but I'm guessing he might use more than 2 gallons of color alone. The floor, firewall and engine compartment took 3 quarts.
Long story short we went with 2 stage and used the color that best matched the paint behind the windshield.

Wow! Looks awesome, Jeff.
The specular highlight in this pic really shows off the pearl.

I wonder what Competition Red Mica would look like?
I'm lost, which of these coats included the pearl again? Was that in the 4 coats of yellow?

I threw up a few more pics of it last night, not real exciting stuff, just showing some of the progress. The reassembly process is taking a LONG time, probably about 2x as long as I thought it would take. Cleaning everything that goes back on the car takes a long time and my garage is begging for another 1000 sq ft.
I've got all the body wiring back in the car, hopefully this weekend I'll get the carpet, HVAC, dash and rear seat in.

.Funny thing is that there is a $40K CYM for sale located 65 miles from me with 15,051 miles on it. Sure I'd rather have a 15K mile original CYM than this one but not if it is gonna cost me $23,000 more than this one is, not even for $10K more.
