Custom IC question
Custom IC question
I was wondering, If i would like to create my own V-mount setup, and take a Spearco core of a 4"D x 26.2W x 11"H size IC, would that big setup be adequate even if i run it on stock turbos? Would if be a problem if its too big, or would'nt change a thing Air Flow wise..
I used the Spearco 3.5"x10.5"x10.4" core in my v-mount setup. I believe the spearco PN is 2-272. This core fits in the car real nice and has a 1000+ cfm rating (650 hp according to Spearco). It also leaves room for a cold airbox.
There is only 28" between the frame rails, not to mention a miniaturized battery (unless you relocate it) chews up 3 to 4 inches of this space. A 24" wide intercooler with end tanks probably won't fit.
Attached is a pic of my setup for reference.

search on some threads by Kevin T. Wyum (spelling) he shared a bunch of info about intercooler size with the community. The size you are talking about should be more than big enough. you don't need an overly large size for the stock twins at near stock boost. The bigger it is the longer you have to wait for air to make its way through = some lag.
Well at first, i do hope to get enuff money for a single turbo setup, but if i dont it will go to later nevertheless. But lets say somebody puts a 3.5 x 20 X 10 with a Front moutn setup. there will be more piping to fill up before getting the kick of the turbos. So thats why i was thinking of a very large IC, with short piping.
wouldnt that compensate?
wouldnt that compensate?

Thats for a piston engine. For a rotary its going to be more like 525 at the engine which is around 445 RWHP.

Do you care to explain why a rotary will produce less hp for a given cfm than a piston engine? Volumetric efficiencies? Mechanical effeciencies? Or are you stating that this intercoooler is less effective with on a rotary engine than a piston engine for the same cfm? Seems to me that cfm is cfm no matter what the engine.
