Custom Dials anyone interested

I just got off the phone with Speedhut. For a while now I've wanted a set of custom dials for my 93 CYM and now we can have an oppertunity to do exactly that. They need a minimum order of 25 people. Each dial set would cost you $100.00 plus 8 dollars S&H. Now for that $108.00 you get what ever kind of custom logo or dials you want. They will provide us with a page to list, your color, logo, and also pre-order the dials. So only people that are 100% interested please let start getting a list together so we can get some custom dials made. These dials will be made to fit 1993-1995 RX7's. Thanks

You mean gauge overlays, correct? Hmm, first time I've heard of them, this is ther page right?

http://www.speedhut.com/default.asp?bhcp=1

The only problem with doing the FD dials is that the tach face is not perfectly flat; there is a bevel, which might cause the needle to hang on overlays. I got around this by putting a little servo screw through the overlay into the the orginal gauge (near the center), pulling the overlay down for more clearance. I'll have to dig for pic.

CJ, you sure they're not pricing you on multiple copies of the exact same custom dial? B/c if each one is custom, it wouldn't make sense for them to offer a group buy rate.

Plus, I checked out their website before, and it seems they only do custom glow gauges. I'm not looking for anything in my car to glow. Just different faces, and to match the stock amber backlighting...

Oh and before I'd order anything, I'd want VERY clear closeup shots of a plain white faced and a plain black faced cluster they've made for other cars. I can get cheap faces all day long that look very tacky (no pun intended haha). I want it to look high quality...

PS: Daniel, thanks for the head's up

Speed Hut has been around that I know of since at least 2002. When I did my NR faces I ended up using epoxy on the back side to hold the tach face down to clear the needle. It's held up for four years now. BTW I still have that diffusion paper in there you sent me in '02 Daniel.

Thanks

No I don't believe that these are custom overlays. Because they asked for me to send them a gauge cluster from a 3rd gen RX7 so they can set up the tooling. So I'm guessing that they mean actual gauge clusters/dials. Also I am sure that they did say that each person can pick out their own color scheme and design for the dials they wanted. Please ask anymore questions so I can contact SpeedHut and get this rolling. Yes I want a set of custom dials for my RX7.

Hmmm...if they need a minimum of 25 ppl at $100 a pop, that sounds about right to design a new face...as it costs over a grand to do so. I know, I looked into it. I guess I'd like to know what options I have...what can and can't be done, if they'll calibrate the gauges as well, do they need us to send in the cluster or will they simply send us new faces, pics of the white and black clusters they've done in the past....I think that's about it.

One more...could they have the gauge face indented a bit like the stock one? (look closer at the gauges...they're indented in, and there's a line toward the outer edges before the marking where the gauge face is raised a bit). Gosh I'm detail-oriented

Okay here's what I'll do. I will call Speedhut tomorrow and have them explain to me in exact detail the entire process. As it's being explained to me I will type all the information down and post it on here. Now hopefully I can find 25 people that are interested. Also if you want to see some examples of the gauge clusters they've made check out their website. http://www.speedhut.com/Default.asp?bhcp=1

Okay so I called Speedhut today, and had a few things cleared up for us. Okay first off, these are GAUGE OVERLAYS. Julieanna said that they have their own lighting and that you will not be able to see the original gauge behind the overlay. 2nd each of the 25 members can have their own specific color and OWN (logo @ 25 dollars extra). So yeah if you want to have a black gauges with pink pok-a-dots and a snake going through it then that's what you'll get. Also from the time the order is finalized to the time the product would be received by the customer is 4 to 6 weeks. If you want to see some of their overlays please go and visit their website via this link http://www.speedhut.com/gallery_list.asp

If you are interested in these gauge overlays then please start listing your names. Once I get 25 people I will call speed hut and make the arrangements to get things start. Thanks in advance.

CJ,

Thanks for the info.

See, this is what I'm worried about... this looks like an obvious overlay:

It lacks depth...and that's what I wanna stay away from at ALL costs... I'll keep looking for some better pics on their site though.

I have a mate with a wicked 92-model FD.

Can you get custom white inserts like that to look factory & in km/h rather than 19th century mph....??

He has been looking for some time but finding a really profesional set is proving hard.....
