Cupholders

G’day people

I Might be buying an RX-7 (FD) soon and was just wondering if there are any cupholders I can buy for it, like any holders that some of you use

thanks in advance

Not really. I remember cup holders that clip onto the window being a thing back in the 90's. You may be able to find something like that still.

I think I remember one merchant making an attachment of sorts that would add two cupholders to the passenger sude of the trans tunnel, but that's it.

What I'll just do is put the passenger seat back against the bin and use the gap there to hold my water bottle.

I have these in my car. Fits in any standard single din radio slot. Kind of chinsy but it does the job. Doesn't get in the way if you have a short shifter. With a stock shifter it gets in the way of shifts just a tiny bit. (like half a cm interference)
Search single din cupholder on amazon, they're about $10

This is what I am going to try sooner or later. I am pleased with their other products.

My right running shoe for long trips. And it’s insulated. Otherwise I’m a camel.

The running joke back in the day was to refer to the passenger as the "cup holder" - as in, here, hold my cup .

I just only bring in drinks with a sealed top. I don't drink coffee and I know it's hard to have coffee in a true spill-proof container.

I've had a 20oz Mountain Dew between my hip and the door panel on the Dragon before .

The car just flat out wasn't designed for one and probably that Garage Alpha option is the cleanest way to go.

For people with the rear bin spec trans tunnel/center console panel the extended rear portion seems like a good place to put a holesaw to and put some 3d printed inserts for DIY cupholders that don't get in the way of anything.

I'm eyeing one of these, but probably only put them on for longer trip.

I've seen people do the cup holder in the center console, that's a good option too. It's a little awkward to get to it but it's doable. You don't have a lot of depth there. Big trick is just finding some good trim piece to go in the hole to act as the cup holder. There is carpet under that console so if you just have the hole trimmed out the cup would be sitting on carpet which is fine.

Here is a pic of the one I installed from https://www.ultimatecupholders.com. It is a BMW part and slips under the center console. I added a strip of metal to secure it to one of the console posts. Works well and is of good quality.

^ Sure, I don't see why not as it doesn't attach to the seat.

Looks like an excellent design. Which version/model did you get?

Tried to go back thru my emails but the order confirmation does not list the item. So, I don't exactly recall which one I ordered. It was most likely the BMW Z4 one as I thought that was the closest dimensionally to the FD, but I can't be 100% certain. Frankly, I think most any of them will work as you will need to add on a strip of metal to secure the cupholder to one of the console anchor bolts, meaning the height of the cupholder is not super important as you need to so some slight modifications anyway.

Looking at those interior pictures confuses my brain, the pictures are of a RHD car, with RHD plastics but LHD parking brake all fitting together .

https://garagealpha.com/collections/...d3s-cupholders these are made by garage alpha, a small company that puts out a lot of good quality products for our cars. These attach to the rails, and allow holding of bottles and some cups, and is a minimalistic design.

Yeah, I thought that was weird, RHD and LHD ebrake are at the same location, so I don't know what's the deal with that one haha.

Do you happen to recall what model you ordered for?
