cry for help! Removing downpipe heat shield bolts

help!

Cant see any way of getting to the bolt holding heatshield number 3's bottom right bolt in. For info, its the second lowest heatshield, listed as coming off third in the FSM. The bolt in question is right by the steering column, abouve the subframe and next to a long actuator arm across the top of the exhaust manifold.

HELP!

Yep, the RHD steering makes the downpipe job much more complicated than the LHD on North American models.

Do you have one of those 10mm ratcheting wrenches? (They are the ****!)

Ive got a 10mm ratchet wrench, but its flat if you know what i mean, and its very difficult to get it on from the underneath (and even when you do, you cant get any rotation on it) and its too far down to go from the top.

Am i supposed to get at it from underneath or on top? what did YOU use when you did the job? if i have to buy a tool so be it. I've spent about 2 hours just staring at it and trying different stuff, im close to removing the steering column or the actuators.

how the hell are you supposed to get those bolts back in when you have the engine back in the car?!?!

Mr tiny hands japanese man, thats how. Not mr 6 foot 4 english man.

i feel your pain! mine was such a bitch i cant even imagine it with the column there!

well wat worked for me when i got really stuck, was just start removing stuff to get more room. maybe that is a good idea. i wish i could remember more...i DO know i got the heatshield from the bottom tho, if that helps.

wait till u get to the studs! then the giant hands really screw u over!

I don't think many people here have worked with a RHD RX-7 to give you specific advice. Maybe someone in the Europe or Japan forums can give a tip.
