vspecpgt apparently didn't, and the comments about basing identification of the material on color was mostly directed at him.

everywhere I've found info on the RZ & Spirit R seats, they've specifically said "kevlar" ie, it was written.
They're more than likely a Kevlar/carbon fiber blend because rigid components pretty much require some carbon fiber, but Kevlar sounds cooler.

Then why did you post "sure doesn't look like carbon to me.. being all yellow and stuff...."?

i doubt mazda wanted to be different and wanted yellow carbon fiber for the seats....
Well, why don't you ask Recaro what they're made of. They made the seats, not Mazda.

You can get them used...but they're VERY hard to find. Both Chuck (RotaryExtreme) and Jason (JT Imports) can get them, but apparently it takes a LONG *** time.

rzograbian had a pair, but they were selling for $3K and upward (apparently whoever imports these sells to the highest bidder, so be ready w/ SERIOUS cash in hand...)

My take on converting to RZ.. I said this before on couple of past threads..

there are few key differences.. If you truely want to keep your car stock and want an RZ than go buy on and import it.. Most likely you can't drive the damn thing because it will cost you arm and a leg to get it registered..

But if you want to drive it and mod it, like 50+ % of the people who own an FD.. than it doesn't matter.. Truth is, you could pick up most of that stuff and put it in yourself and keep the same registration and insurance.. Not only that most people's insurance probably don't cover custom works and mods.. mine don't.

Oh.. also 99 spec does not mean RZ turbos.. RZ had the 99 280 HP turbos.. I remember awhile back someone got ripped off because they didn't know the difference..

RZ tranny, only difference is the 5 gear..

Engine wise, its the same.. maybe some of those solenoids for controlling he turbo might be neat and simple, minus the crazy rats nest.

ECU is changed but most of us modded FD's have PFC or other ECU..

brakes.. yes, they are supposed to be better.. maybe.. but old brakes are just as good.. most of us don't track anyhow..

wheels.. same reason as before.. many of us have aftermarket wheels..

gosh kevin, you sound so angry. are you still mad cause i have a vmount?!?! (jk)

the other seats recaro made are touted as Kevlar or Carbon Kevlar..... but they always say they are kevlar.

at least that what i found looking at the profi spa... and that about as close to the stock rz seats you're gonna get.

CARBON FIBER itself is BLACK and will not take any dyes or coloration - the COLORED fibers in the weave (cloth) are probably an ARIMID fiber like KEVLAR or NOMEX that can be dyed - the CHEAPEST "Colored Carbon Fiber Cloth" is made with NYLON in the weave for the COLOR. Raw Kevlar is a golden yellow color, Raw NOMEX is a very light yellow/tan color.

hmm...
don't know what the gear ratio for 5th is. seems like a pretty big waste of time and money to do the swap though.

you guys are pretty touchy about the seats. wow. it's not like the kevlar is going to stop a bullet.
