so very frustrated... somone help :(

my transmission was going to go back together today, but when my mechanic went to put the new 5th gear back on it didnt fit.

The new gear looks like it is a lower ratio than the one that came off the transmission

the gear that i got is part number 17-610

the 5th gear part number out of the part fische on iluvmyrx7.com is 17-611

The problem is thta the mazduh dealer dosent have 17-611 in their system. so im left to believe one of two things happened.

1. they sent me the wrong gear.
2. my transmission is different because it is a canadian car.

does anyone have any insight to this? or know what the part number should be? or know if the 5th gear from the canadian spec rx7 was a different ratio?

Thanks, Mike

I bought a 17-610 about a year ago and it fit fine. You shouldn't have a different ratio since it is still a 93-95 car. Is it thr original trans? Do you think the previous owner would have put the 99+(?) 5th gear in there?

my mechanic says its obvious that somone has been into my transmission since some of my syncros have been replaced.

so i guess anything is possible.

I dont know much about transmissions, but can i just get a new counter gear so that it fits?

just counted the teeth on the gear...

the one that came out of my transmission has 25 teeth, and the 17-610 one has 27 teeth.... I guess that means im 99 spec?

god it never freakin ends with these cars does it!
