Crackling sounds when getting on it hard

Somethimes when I get on the car WOT I hear a faint crackling sound. Kinda like metal expanding. Anyone hear this sound? Im running stock motor with stock turbos. Mods below.

BTW the sound appears to be coming from the motor area.

could be your exhaust banging, or possibly a bolt loose...

I have always been under the assumption that if you hear detonation in a rotary its too late. With that logic your engine would already been blown if it was indeed detonation.

However if it is detonation and your engine has survived thus far i would get it checked asap and not go wot until then.

Could it be a cracked engine sub-frame (Power-Plant Frame)?

Thats what I was thinking (if it was detonation=toasted motor) The car seems to be running just fine other than the crackling I hear at 3rd gear WOT at the uppers RPMS. There is no hesitation, bucking, ect just that sound. It does it non rythmically. One here wait a few then a few more right after another.

The water temp is about 180 F and the ouside temp might be in the 70's. The i/c is warm but not hot to the hand.

I had an engine that would detonate under full load.
I finally figured out what the problem was, but it survived a more abuse than I thought it would.

A while back I was driving a local's stock FD. I heard detonation under full load and his engine also survived. Apparently had been running 87 octane gas for awhile and his engine survived.
