Cracked 93 stock wheel repair or replace?

The crack is at the bottom of one of the spokes just like all the pictures I have seen on the forum of cracked wheels.
I had to drive from home to school on it so I've put about 250 miles on it since I noticed that it was cracked.

How long has anyone used a wheel after it cracked? Some people tell me it is really dangerous but I don't seem to be worried at all about driving on it.

Has anyone repaired their wheel by having it welded?
I have heard that the aluminum that they will use to weld it is more dense and will be like a weight on that part of the wheel and throw the balance off.

Will this mess up my suspension at all? It may shake because it is a little off balance.

I am not worried about the weld not holding because I think it will but are there any other dangers to having the wheel repaired that I didn't mention?

It's going to cost 35 bucks to have it welded and about 20 to take off and put back the tire.
On that note does any one have a stock wheel to sell me? I just need one and it doesn't have to be in great condition it can have curb marks on it and be dirty or whatever. My wheels are pretty much fucked so I don't care I just don't want to spend too much money on this ****.

thanks guys
help or comments are appreciated

I would replace it. Those wheels are always available for sale by someone, though it might be hard to find just one. You could buy a set and sell the extras, I would think, since there is always someone looking for just one (damage) or two (to mount drag slicks).

Garfinkle has 5 wheels he may sell one call him in Murfreesboro ,TN. If you have it welded have the tire mounted and balanced, the wheel will be out of balance . Agood used wheel is best .

I do think you will be able to balance it. It won't be far off and correcting balance problems is what balancing is for anyway.

But, the wheel already cracked once. Welding seems like it will be stressful for the wheel. I would be concerned that it would crack again. You'd probably want to get it refinished to look right. Taking those things into consideration, an uncracked replacement seems like a much better choice.

I was talking to another RX-7 owner and he told me that there are two kinds of stock wheels. Some are light weight and others are heavier. They look the same and are difficlut if not impossible to tell apart. The light weight ones tend to crack. You might have the light ones.

I have to agree with Max on this one. It might just be a better idea to get another wheel.

To tell the different wheels (light or heavy) the curve at the outter end of the spoke is different . The full curve does not crack ,the sharper curve does crack .

Yeah, the whole cracked wheel thing has been well covered time and time again. Even the Robinette site has a deal on it, if I remember right.

The final say is......do YOU want to be travelling perhaps 160 mph on a cracked or "repaired" wheel?

There are lots of stock wheels out there, just get one.
