couple of engine rebuild questions

Well, I'm getting ready to rebuild the engine, and I had a couple of unrelated questions, so I thought I'd ask them all in one thread, instead of making multiple threads. Here goes:

1) I'm going to be getting a street port (don't know how aggressive yet). Also have a full intake and exhaust, plus PFC and new BNR stage 3s. I will definitely upgrade the injectors and fuel pump, but do I need an ignition amplifier as well?

2) I've heard multiple people have replaced their engine harness. While I agree that this is probably a good idea (mine is pretty baked), is it really necessary? I just don't know if I'm gonna have $600 laying around when everything else is paid for. Are there any places to get cheaper ones?

3) Finally, an unrelated turbo question: I know that when turbos "go bad," they blow oil through the turbo. Since I don't know the intricate details of the inner workings of a turbocharger, I've always wondered where the oil comes from? I would imagine that there is a seal that leaks somewhere? Where is this seal and why does it go bad?

TIA

Ok here it goes i 'll try my best

1.) No you do not "need" a ignition amp. However if you plan on trying to make high HP and boost it would help step things up a bit. So not required but at the point you are at why not?

2.)Engine harness's get toasted quickly the actual wires are most likely OK. it is the outer "protective" shell that gets wasted. If you have the patience to do it. you can cut all the old wrapping off it and re-wrap with new tape. Then put a heat blanket wrap around it. DEI offers some good products for that.
This will save you the hundreds on a new harness but cost you about 20 bucks in tape, whatever the heat wrap costs ,.. and all your patience. but it can and has been done. I just re-wrapped my whole engine bay harness's. that was fun

3.)The oil seal is located on the center section of the turbo. This assembly can be removed and rebuilt with new parts if the housings and such meet specs. The most common cause of the leaks is heat. there is a lot of heat being made around those seals. Also depending on what and how much foreign material may have entered into the rear wheel , damaged the fins and caused a out of balance and then shaft wobble. Then a leak.
There are a few good sites that have a blow up of the turbos. I think rob robinettes site has one. Also the FSM has a picture and description of the lube system and turbo system. if you do not have a FSM on hand. Download one from www.iluvmyrx7.com

Thats what i got for you off the top of my head. Maybe more people will chime in now that someone else has helped out
