Greddy FMIC. Pros and Cons??

Well, i am still in the breakin process on my new Pettit street ported motor. Am sticking with the stock twins for now. 12 pounds will be enuff for a while, and i was planning on upgrading to the Greddy 2 row FMIC. I have heard some cons about FMICs, in that they can block airflow to the radiator, which can cause overheating. I know i dont want that, but i have also heard that from someone with the Apex FMIC, which appears to be thicker. Does anyone have the Greddy, or know anyone with it? Pros or Cons if known will help in my ultimate decision. I definately need a better intercooler, so if this is a poor choice what is a better one?

First

Second
Pros: Cheap, improves performance, looks bling.
Cons: Install is a bitch, blocks radiator, requires a lot of hacking.

I've got the 2-row and had overheating problems for a very long time, even with the Koyo radiator with after market dual 10" fans running constantly. All it took to solve the problem was to put a set of stock fans on...I will never again doubt how good they are. The car runs great now with the FMIC and it looks fantastic, but I was really unimpressed with Greddy's kit. Every bracket had to be bent or changed slightly to work. Just some words of advice. For me the Greddy is worth bending a few brackets etc. because I think it is by far the best looking, and lets be honest, thats a huge part of wanting a FMIC for many people.

That's the funny thing about these FMIC kits. Unless your car has some previous frame damage or you received a damaged FMIC you shouldn't have to bend any brackets or fab anything up. Unfortunately however we all know this is not the case. People will tell you how superior Japanese products are compared to others out there. But in reality they just aren't. Maybe more people have had better luck with the Blitz or A'PEXi's?

Kris,

If you trust Art to put your car back together, trust Art with IC advice. He said if he could do his car all over again, he would use a larger SMIC like the ASP/Pettit Large instead of his Apexi FMIC.
