Could Use a little help plz

Ok so i just bought my car about a week ago and i am definitely new to rotary. It runs good lightly modded. I'm trying to learn all i can ab0out it. OK so first issue is i went to check the oil yesterday and hrmmm....wheres the dipstick? not there so i am missing an oil dipstick. So i went to autozone and bought a general oil stick but i don't know the length to set it at so i just plugged the hole with it cuz oil was leaking out a little bit. So if anyone has an OEM dipstick for sale or wouldn't mind parting with i would greatly appreciate it. Ive looked all over on the web and can't seem to find one (i may just be looking in the wrong places).

OK second issue is i don't know what kind of fuel economy these things are supposed to get but mine is SWALLOWING gas way fast. I had 3/4 tank of gas and i literally drove 10 miles and had 1/2 tank by the time i was done. I can sit there driving and watch the fuel gauge get lower as I'm going. I'm babying it by the was and not rodding it all over the place even tho it is tempting. So any ideas? I will greatly appreciate any help. I do know the ECU was switched out for a non stock one not sure what it is.

Call up Ray for a new dip stick

Malloy Mazda , Ray Crowe is the parts manager, gives great prices to RX-7 owners, quick shipping:
(888) 533-3400 , (703) 490-8170 , fax: (703) 490-3864 , hmkparts@aol.com

the ECU is inside the plastic panel on passengerside wall under the glove box. pull it out and take some pics of it. maybe forum members can help you identify what kind is it if its aftermarket. is the car stock? it might be tuned for single turbo or some other setup way more rich than you need.

First off, read the following thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=837091

Next, in general these cars do not get great gas mileage. Most people average around 12-14mpg. Some of the owners with programmable ECU's are able to get better but those are numbers you can count on.

I can tell you this from experience. The RX-7 are one of the worst cars when it comes to fuel economy. The fact that you're seeing the gas needle go down rapidly is not because something is wrong. But that is how these FDs are.

Take this into account. When these cars first made it to the North American part of the world the gas prices were never an issue.

I could easily fill up the gas tank, with optimum gasonline for the maximum cost of about 11 dollars.

And I'm sure you know, that now even with the 87 Octane your full tank of gas will run you 45 to 47 dollars.

One advice I can give you is to make sure your air filter is clean. That will help some.

Welcome to the world of owning an RX-7.

Uhh, I have never seen my fuel gauge needle "moving". Sure these cars dont get fantastic mileage, but give me a break. There is obviously something wrong if it is sucking down that much fuel, unless your constantly under hard boost.

Um, what? Maybe last summer...

15 gallon tank + 2.40 (94 octane) a gallon = almost $50???

Agreed. I'm running 4x 850cc injectors @ 10psi over normal fuel pressure (essentially 4x 1000cc's) and I can still manage 230 miles to a tank.. this is with 400whp on twins.

If he's going through a quarter of a tank in 10 miles than there is something not right.

On the stock twins I usually averaged 16mpg, which that significantly dropped if I was flooring it everywhere

Do you smell fuel when you're driving it?? Maybe you have a fuel leak somewhere. Its worth checking out because that certainly doesn't sound right, even if the FD's don't get the best mpg. Also describe all the mods that have been done...if you know what the previous owner did.

Top off your fuel tank and reset your trip odometer and see how many miles you can travel by the time its on "E" and see what your average mileage is.

Could also be because his fuel gauge has gone bonkers, like mine. When I fill up, it only goes to 3/4 of a tank and appears to suck fuel to 1/2 tank and then starts to operate properly like a normal fuel gauge. My advice to you is to fill it up and see if it reads full. If not, you probably have the same issue I have, which I understand is pretty common on the car. Then fill it up once it reads 1/2 and check out the number of gallons you put in the car and I'll bet it is way less than 1/2 of the tank which is 9 gallons or so.

I first noticed this coming back from Orlando. Damn, 1/2 tank of gas used and only 50 miles! When I filled up though, the car took only 3 gallons of gas which was my first tip off.

Still trying to fix this. Bad sensor?

FYI - Ray Crowe is the man and the only source for OEM parts.. Great service at unbeatable prices. He owns an FD so he knows what he is speaking about.
