Correct position of timing plate?

I was in the process of installing a new set of Touge Factory pulleys when I noticed what I realize now was the timing plate behind the main pulley was looking dirty. So I removed it to repaint it and didn't mark or notice what position it was in (the long tab on the plate) before I reinstalled it. I have not fired the engine up yet. Is there a correct position the tab on the timing plate needs to be in relative to the crank angle sensor or another landmark? Sorry if this is a noob question!

To clarify, in the picture I'm referring to the black wheel behind the pulley.

Well yeah, putting on the pulley is of course a no brainer. I'm just wondering if I threw timing off by not putting the timing plate with the tab on in the same orientation when I took it off. I admit this probably shows a complete misunderstanding of timing in rotary engines and the crank angle sensor, but that's why I'm asking.

No but the bolts go through that plate too and I noticed that there was only one way it went on when I put mine on. With those two standoffs..

You're missing the front pulley bolt sheet metal locking plate there....good idea to run it.

Actually that's not my engine. I just used that pic as an example.

10+ rx7's and I have never seen that locking plate before. Although I have never seen the front bolt come off without a massive 5 ft breaker bar and heat and a big impact gun.. ~__~

So not every engine came with that plate from the factory? I know mine didn't have it and it's never been rebuilt.
