corner seal leak....serious?

hey

im pretty sure i have a corner seal leak. the idle is a little lumpy and the the boost gauge needle flickers up and down, especially if im at half throtlle. but its been like this for some time now and the car runs really strong. vacume is around 18-19.

just wondering if its serious and needs IMMEDIATE attention.

How did you deduce its a corner seal? You ultimately need a compression test to know for sure. I would do that as quickly as possible, even if you use a cheap hand held tester you can get useful information.

what rpm at idle to pull 18-19? If it's at 750 to 800 - that's pretty damn good and if so, I don't you have a corner seal problem.

It's most likely a slightly chipped apex seal.....I saw this exact symptom on a customer's car recently and upon teardown that was the culprit. Unfortunately, 'slightly blown' is like 'slightly pregnant'

Until the motor is broken down, your 'mechanic' really has no way of knowing, he's just making a (presumably) educated guess.
