Cooling system overhaul

I am planing on re-doing my entire cooling system here pretty soon. Everything is still stock under the hood except the intake. I was just wondering what all I am going to need to do it. So far I am planning on the following;

Koyo N-flow Radiator
14 cooling hoses (Ray Crowe special)
28 cooling hose clips
FC thermo switch
New thermostat
Tap thermostat housing for a temp gauge
New UIM gasket
New throttle body gasket

Is there anything else I am going to need to complete this project (seals, gaskets, consumable items, etc.)?

Are there any other things I should plan on doing while I have everything apart?

Good luck trying to get the Koyo N-flow to fit in the stock location. The Fluidyne works fine when used in the stock location w/o the fitment problems. Search for more input on that.

Add an aftermarket AST to the list.

You're going to need to move the air pump to reach the turbo coolant hoses so might as well do the belts if it needs it.

Some people recommend placing the coolant sensor in the throttle body coolant line. Search or read the big fat cooling thread linked to in the FAQ to understand why. In that thread you will also learn how to burp the system

What exactly does the Water Wetter do? More importantly does it work?

Is it really that hard to get a Koyo in the stock location? I thought it just needed some minor adjustments. I plan on going with a V-mount setup in the future and thought it would be nice not to have to buy another rad.

Sorry I forgot to mention I already have a fighters garage aluminum AST installed. Solved my overflow tank back up problems. Which reminds me, I also plan on pulling the over flow tank and clean/replace it.

Didn't even think about the belts. I will make sure and put a new set on.

I have read quite a few threads about placement of the water temp sensor. From what I understand when placed in the throttle body, it will not respond as quickly as when placed in the T-stat housing. However you will not get a reading until the T-stat has opened. I personally feel having a quicker reading sensor is more important than watching the temp rise while the motor warms up. Once it gets to temp, I don't think its gonna cool off until the motor is shut off.

Thanks for the input.

Do some research on where to tap for a temp gauge. There have been discussions before on where to tap it. Some say in certain locations are better then others. If you have to tap the thermostat housing or water pump housing, dont forget the gasket, as you have to take it off, and clean the inside out (shaving and all) then reattach.

Sounds like a nice job you have on your hands there. Good luck at it

There is also an aftermarket water pump upgrade that you can add to the list.
