Cooling issue opinions

I'm looking to get the opinions of a few people on what may be going on with my car, I'll provide a little background information first.

I very recently purchased a 1992 RHD FD that I was told had a blown motor (I bought it with the intention of doing a rebuild) but after spending a weekend with the car, I'm not so sure it's blown.

The car drives strong, no hesitation, idling problems or boosing problems, however, there does seem to be a cooling issue. No oil in the coolant, no coolant in the oil.

At times I can start her up and she'll idle in my driveway forever without issue, but sometimes, if driving her up and down my street, my coolant temperature will spike for about 1-2 seconds, and then return to normal. I also find that my coolant overflow container is... overflowing.

I also have little to no interior heat.

I'm wondering if anyone thinks this may be a sign of a failing waterpump.

Any other opinions or guesses are welcome,

Thanks

-Geoff

Generally if the overflow tank is overflowing often, that means you may be over pressurizing the cooling system (which could be from combustion gases, i.e. blown coolant seal). A quick test is to do something like this:

How are you reading coolant, aftermarket gauge? PFC?

When my cooling fans do come on, it seems to drop the 12V reading of my temperature gauge momentarily resulting somehow in higher temps reading that do not seem to reflect the coolant temperature.

I'm reading off the factory gauge. I have not installed any aftermarket gauges yet, as I was intending to do this as a full rebuild.

The needle on the gauge pod will read normal, but spike up to full H for 1-2 seconds, then drop back to it's "normal" position.

I have bled the cooling system fully, as these symptoms would lead me to believe there are air pockets in the coolant.

Most likely blown coolant seals, which means a rebuild.

Well if that's the case I'm no worse off than I thought I was when I purchased the car

Thanks for the opinions, if anyone else has anything to weigh in with, please feel free.
