cooling fan keep running and running and running

hi everyone.

I got a question about the cooling fan on your fd. I am trying to figure out why my engine is running rough, and I come across this info in the FSM quote
" 1) A malfunction in the water thermosensor or its circuit will cause hard starting or engine stall when engine is cold.
2) in the above condition, the electric cooling fan will constantly operate when the ignition switch is ON."

I can not remember if my car is beening doing that, but it is doing it now. Everytime, I turn my ignition on, the fans come on. I recently replaced the senor, and I have test it out according the FSM, and it checked out fine, with the right resistence at the right temp.

So here are the questions.

1. do your car's cooling fan comes on only with the key in on position, but the car is not running. (by the way I don't have the cooling fan ground mod, and i did comfirm that the wire is not accidentally ground out. )
2. what are some other cause that will trigger the fan to come on with the engine not running. beside the thermosenor.
3. here is the hard one, anyone got any tips on testing the wiring the thermosenor circuit. the fsm is confusing as hell.

thank you for your help.

Thank you for your reply, and I had tried to pull code, but no code comes up.
That is funny too, because normally, if I jump the ten and grd, and turn car on, the code will come up or the check engine light stay off. but this time the engine light stays on. really got me confuse, but thank you for your input.

No, it's not normal to have your fans run any time you turn the key to "on".

There is obviously a problem with the water thermosensor circuit, or you could have a ground fault somewhere in the fan relay circuits. If you checked the thermosensor and are positive it's in working order, then you'll need to trace the wiring to see where the fault is. Then check your relay wiring on the passenger side fender well where the relays are mounted.

I could be wrong, but I got the impression that they meant:

If you drive your car, then park and turn it off, but leave the keys in and the ignition at "on," the auto-exhaust fans will come on. This is completely normal, I use it to cool off my engine almost every time I turn off the car.

But I could be wrong, I just know in this situation the fans will be on and the engine off and it's suppose to happen.

i believe that is what the guy posted this tread trying to say. and yes, it is normal after turn of the car and leave the key in the ignition. or u can do this, go buy a FAN and turn it on when you park the car. so it allow air to flow into the engine bay.

If the fans come on and the check engine light stays on when you use the diagnostic pins (ten and GND) then there is an ECU fault. Either a bad ecu or a chip has been installed with a bent pin. I have seen this several times. Car will run seemingly fine but when you pull the ECU out and open up where the chip socket is, there could be a pin that missed it's mark. Also could be just a burned board.

thank you for your info. well, let me confirm it with my stock ecu and see. I know it won't have any code, but, at least the check engine light will go out.

i will keep you posted

i had the problem and it turned out that my connector to the thermosensor had come out slightly.

Its right behind the water housing and to the left back of the alternator. I believe its a green plug.
